(For clarification- this is a Monday, late September)
Kahlen arrived at the gym ten minutes before her posted dance lessons were to start. She didn't know if anyone would show up, but she could always practise by herself.
She opened her bag and pulled out the shoes her parents had sent her. She also put her own pair of jazz shoes on. 'Probably should start with something easy for the first lesson,' she thought.
Kahlen had made a sign that read 'Dance Lessons Here' in brightly colored letters. She skipped over to the doors of the main gym and taped the sign to one of the doors.

Mellianne walked into the gym, having decided to keep on learning how to dance. For who knew when she might need to know how. She was wearing exercise clothes and had her hair tied up into a bun to keep it out of the way.
When Mellianne saw Kahlen, she smiled. "Good morning!"

"Hey!" Kahlen said to Mellianne as she walked in. She gestured to the pile of shoes.
"I brought some shoes for whoever shows up to wear. I'll take a vote on what everyone wants to learn first. So, don't be fooled by the jazz shoes." She pointed to her feet.
"I'm glad you've decided to continue the lessons!"

Mellianne nodded. "Alright. And I probably won't be much use in voting. I don't know much about different types of dance." She started to look around to see if anyone else had showed up.

Damien peeked around the corner to see who was in the room... and saw the two girls.
"Uh... hi. Am I the only guy to show up? I thought it might be fun to do something completely different once in a while..."

Mellianne turned to Damien. "Hello! And you're the only guy to show up so far. There will probably be more coming, right Kahlen?" She began to check to make sure her hair was still in a bun.

Less wandered in, smiling broadly. He rather liked dancing, and thought it would be interesting to see how many types there were. "Hello Kahlen, Mellianne, Damien!" he called loudly.

Kahlen laughed. "Don't worry, Damien. You won't be the only guy."
She waved as Less came in. "Glad you showed up, too!"
"I'm probably going to leave it up to you guys what type of dance you want to start with. I suggest ballet, but I'm sure you'd like it more if you could pick. You've got ballet, tap, and jazz to chose from." Kahlen pointed to the correct shoe with each style she listed off.
"I've got shoes, but I don't know if I'll have enough- I've only got nine total. I mean, they're not necessary..." Kahlen scratched her head and grinned.

Mellianne smiled at Less. "Hi!"
Mellianne shrugged when Kahlen said to choose. "As I said, I know next to nothing about dance. I'm fine with whatever someone else chooses, or whatever is easiest to learn."

"What's jazz?" asked Less as he slipped off his own shoes. After a moment's thought, the socks came off too. "Will you be teaching these people the Hunt Dance, too?"

"Jazz sounds cool. It's even a specific dance style? I mean, I know the music of course, but I didn't know it was a kind of dancing too." With a surprised look Damien walked into the room, and started fumbling with the laces on his sneakers. After some difficulty with one, that had gotten tangled, he kicked them off and took off his socks as well.

Seeing the others already removing their shoes, Mellianne kicked her sandals off and placed them and her bag off to the side. "So I'm guessing you two are voting for jazz?"

"Jazz it is," Kahlen said cheerfully. "Just so you know, it invovles ballet, so I'll teach you some basic ballet as well."
Kahlen went over to the shoes and picked up the jazz shoes. "You can see if any of these fit. If they don't, socks will work."
"And yes, it's a dance style. It's sort of a mix of ballet and contemporary. Well, sort of. It's kinda hard to explain. We'll probably go more of a musical theatre route- like Bob Fosse. We can do the hunt dance sometime, if you want to, Less."

Mellianne walked over to Kahlen and grabbed a pair of shoes that looked close to her size. She sat down to put them on and noticed that they were close enough and that they were just a tad to big, but not enough to cause any problems. "Nah, these fit fine. Thanks for supplying the shoes though. I wouldn't know what to buy at all."

"Well, I wouldn't expect anyone to buy anything, although if you want to continue, I'd suggest getting a pair," Kahlen replied. "Let's start with some stretches once you check out the shoes."
Kahlen sat on the floor, gesturing for the others to do the same. She began stretching.

Damien looked at his feet, at the shoes offered, and back at his feet. "Yeah, I'll put my socks back on, that's not going to fit." His feet were rather broad and long, no way he was going to fit any of those shoes. "You know, I was doubting if I should come, I was thinking that dancing might be a bit of a girly thing to do, no offense meant. But then, it's kind of cool if a guy can actually dance instead of constantly stepping on people's feet, so why not take lessons. Now all I need is for someone to help me learn to play an instrument... there was talk of forming a band somewhere at the start of the semester, and I'd love to be in one. But I guess schoolwork caught up with everyone."

Mellianne thought for a moment. "Hmm, well then later can you help me figure out what I need to look for in dancing shoes?"
She then turned to Damien. "I guess so. I haven't seen many people around lately. I hope they are all doing alright."

"There are lots of guys in dance. In fact, guys get to do really cool things because they usually have more power and strength than girls," Kahlen said.
She switched legs to stretch. "Unfortunately, I don't know how to play any instruments. So, can't help you there. Perhaps you should find Scott. He plays quite a few instruments."
Kahlen turned to Mellianne. "Yeah, sure. All you need is the right size and style, then you're good to go."
Standing up, Kahlen asked, "All ready?"

Less shoved on the shoes. They were a bit too small for him, but he figured that a little discomfort wouldn't hurt anything. He smoothly slid into the first stretch, which was admittedly different than the one Kahlen was doing. In fact, anyone trying to copy his particular stretch would be in a world of pain since it required almost contortionist-level flexibility.
"Everyone needs a dance of their own," he said conversationally. "The dances you use represent yourself and your pack. Music is optional, but good if you can get it. Unfortunately, I do not have any of my own."

Aurora knocked on the gymnasium doorway. "Am I too late for the dance meeting?" She spoke before she took a moment to actually look around and figure it out, as she was wont to do.

"Yeah, Scott's my roommate. I seem to be just missing him every time though." Damien watched Less do his stretches with a raised eyebrow, and opted against copying those. "Oh, hi," he said as he looked around to see Aurora come in. "have we met before? I'm Damien."

Kahlen looked up as Aurora entered. "Nah, come join us for stretches."
She waved in the general direction of the shoes. "Go grab a pair of shoes if you want, otherwise, socks will do. After stretching, well start with some basic ballet steps. Have you danced before, Aurora?"

Less switched positions and began another painful-looking stretch. "Isn't barefoot better, though?" he asked. Socks would lead to slipping on the smooth floor, which would certainly not be conductive to good dancing.

Mellianne started stretching. "Hi Aurora!" She did basic stretches, like the ones that she had done the first time she danced. "I also don't know how to play an instrument. I'm rather musically challenged."

Kahlen nodded. "Barefoot works fine, although it may hurt your feet if you do turns- although you are probably used to that. We're not going to do anything drastic that would cause you to slip, at least not today."
Kahlen stood up. "By the way, Less, you're stretching is insane." She grinned.
"All righty. That should be enough for today. Lemme see if I can use something for a makeshift barre." Kahlen looked around the room. She spotted a ledge along one of the walls.
"Let's go over there, eh?" She put the shoes she laid out back in her bag and headed toward the direction of the wall.

Mellianne stretched a bit more then followed Kahlen over to the ledge. "That's good to hear. I don't know if I could manage anything that might make me slip at the moment." Pausing a second to think, she added, "What kind of things do we use a barre for?

Less stood up for one last stretch, this one rather tame compared to the previous ones. He moved his shoes and socks against the wall before following Kahlen to the ledge. He didn't know what a barre was either, but he figured that the girl would tell them when it came time to use it.

Kahlen stood with her left side facing the ledge. "I should probably work on finding something more suitable, but this should do for today."
The ledge reached midway between her shoulder and elbow. She stood slightly away from the edge, gripping it with her left hand. "Okay, so a barre (if we actually had one) is used for excercises and helps with balance. We'll probably stick with barre work today. When you've mastered that, we'll move to the floor. So, if you'd like to take a spot at the ledge behind me..."
She looked back to see that everyone had taken a position at the ledge.

Copying Kahlen's pose, Less took up position immediately behind her. He was even holding onto the ledge in the exact same manner. He then looked to her for more instructions.

Mellianne nodded. "Okay. I never really got what they were for, but that makes sense." She took a spot behind Kahlen, careful to make sure there was enough space around her that she wouldn't accidentally bump into anyone.
