Name: Ame (pronounced AH-may) Robinson
Age: 28
Hair color: Chocolate brown
Eye color: Forest green
Height: 5'7"
Appearance: Ame is a tall, but not too tall young woman with a pleasantly developed figure; long in the leg, but otherwise well proportioned. Straight, fine, thick chocolate-colored hair frames a vaguely angular face with high cheekbones and a strong but soft jawline. Her mouth is unremarkable, being neither too small or too wide; lips neither very thin or full--though her smile often cants to the right. Her best trait is her eyes, which are wide and bright, clear green. They are serious eyes, set under expressive, mobile eyebrows and on either side of a straight nose. Just off her left eyebrow is a small "beauty mark." She's fond of wearing pastel blues and greens.
Biography: From birth, Ame's only family was her twin sister, Jenni. They grew up together in the Minnesota hospital where they were born, since the staff didn't have the heart to give them over to the state. Throughout their childhood they were practically inseparable: they shared the same interests in healing and generally making the world a better place, the same tastes, the same dreams; they supported each other unflappably. However, beginning in high school, Jenni began to go off in her own direction. Though she still wanted to help people, just like Ame, she started muttering things like "maybe this isn't the way," and "what if we're messing with things that ought not be messed with?" and "normal people have to be trained to do this;" and by the end of college, no longer muttering: "Powers Almighty, I can't do this anymore; I'm done, I'm leaving! Come find me when you realize you're the sick one, not them."
Ame was absolutely crushed by her twin's desertion and hasn't quite recovered. She has tried to get back in touch, but Jenni won't take her calls and all her letters bounce back with a strange acronym and some kind of smoking parcel stamped on them. It's all very sad.
No doubt partly due to Jenni's influence, Ame does have an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. Though considered a two-year degree, it actually took her the usual four years of undergrad studies to achieve due to the high number of general education requirements, prerequisites, and co-requisites. After graduation at the age of 22, she returned home for a final year of on-the-job experience, and the hospital granted her a certification to practice.
Unfortunately, most places want to see a national board certification, so since she decided to strike out for herself, Ame had poor luck finding a job. She wandered from place to place for the last few years, staying with friends and still doing her best to make people happy. She saw St. Dymphna's advert for a school nurse posted in Port Virtue and decided to apply. Since the headmistress was more concerned with experience than pieces of paper, Ame was immediately accepted. She's currently staying with friends in town, but will probably find a small house or apartment at the end of the semester.
Personality: In all ways nice, even while being quite firm with her patients when it comes to their treatments, but sad. She attempts to hide it for the sake of her patients, but she is very lonely, and secretly hopes that all her niceness will someday result in one person returning it to her. Since she likes just about everyone, she's not partial about that one person's race, class, or gender (though, like most people, she assumes someone of the opposite gender is most likely).
In her comfort zone, the infirmary, Ame manages to come across as acceptably calm, cool, and collected. Anywhere else, though, she's easily startled and even timid when confronted with unexpected circumstances. Still, she can usually laugh it off and recover, especially when the prospect of making friends exists. She doesn't stand much on formality and prefers to be called by her name rather than a title.
Her hobbies include playing her viola, listening to people, and reading. She is interested in alternative medicine, such as herbal remedies, though cautious about recommending them professionally. She is very fond of animals and looks forward to having a pet if she stays in one place long enough.
Occupation: School nurse
Skills: Ame is an exceptionally, almost supernaturally gifted healer. She has an intuitive grasp of anatomy and physiology and a sense for where a problem might lie, even when encountering something she's never seen before. Her very touch is soothing, and so is her voice, whether singing or just talking. If she'd ever heard of reiki, she would be a natural at it. For that reason, she will initiate physical contact whenever appropriate, since doing so opens an important channel of communication for her. Since it usually means her patients start to feel less pain or just more relaxed on contact, most of them find that they don't mind.
As if that weren't enough, a grateful patient once gifted her with a viola, which she has since learned to play, and the instrument seems to have curious properties of its own. All music evokes emotions, but this viola is practically empathic. Ame has yet to realize its true nature, but it really can soothe the savage beast, whether it's a rampaging lion or just a teenager with rampaging hormones.
