Shihab laughed quietly to himself at Verin's comments-- it was going to be remarkably easy to get under his skin, and once you've got someone unnerved, it's only one step to making them misstep into complete humiliation. Oh, this was going to be fun. He finished the last page of notes, contemplated staying to ask the Professor to go more in-depth about the theory that all humans had magic, and was on the point of getting up to go when Aurora walked up to the desk. He hid his smile, watching her stumble over an obvious infatuation with a man who had to be at least several decades older than her, but frowned at her last sentence. The point still conflicted him-- and then he remembered that he had to visit Professor Cutty's office as soon as this class was over; given that she was on the same floor, and only a short distance from here, he didn't have much of an excuse not to.
...Unless he managed to stall for time here, and maybe think of a way out of blowing this bonfire thing wide open. He stood, his thoughts returning to the point of inherited magic, having returned triumphant from their procrastinatory ideas.

Herbie walked out of class with a grin on his face, and a densely scribbled notebook. This class was going to be awesome. He couldn't wait for the next one.
