Tane say next to Beau, nodded at him and grinned, then nodded at the rest of the table. Without waiting for introductions he dug into his steak.

Mellianne blinked at Beau. "Device?" She took out the bottle filled with room temperature water and opened it. Waving a finger, she caused it to rise up and form into a miniature of her, who looked all around the table. "It's magic, not a device."

Natoli waved a hand when replying. "No problem at all. If there was a fight in the forest, it would probably cause problems to the animals there as well. If I wasn't starving, I would have gotten up as well."

Mellianne blushed. "Sorry I misunderstood. And it take a bunch of concentration. I can't do it at the moment. And since I'm tired, I would probably get a backlash again, and that's never good."

Damien sniffled a bit, and swung back the last cup of tea he had. It was quickly followed by the remains of his food, which alltogether left him feeling a lot better. Winter was a time when his inner heat needed to be as full as he could keep it, no use aiming for his kind's form of hypothermia.
"So, you from the south or something, Beau? You've got a really strong accent there."

"I'm from a little ways East of here. I don't do anything, I'm here to study. I just get really cold in winter." Not like he could just say 'hey, I'm a fire-breathing dragon and I'm here to get an education while not being chased by government goons out to catch me and use me as a conductor', could he. "It's been a cold winter so far, which is not a happy thing."

Beau looked at Damien and his steaming pot of tea and his eyes narrowed in questioning for a split second. Then the big grin immediately returned. "Do nuttin? Haha dat ok, I no mean to pry. What choo study? Yall here las' term? Yall got any teacher ole Beau watch out fo'?" At the end of this barrage of question aimed at everyone, Beau began to eat again while he kept his eyes on those sitting around him.

Mellianne nodded. "Aye, I was here last term. As for teachers..." She tapped her cheek. "Some left and there are new ones. The groundskeeper is the only creepy one that I know of. And if you have her..." she motioned towards her sister, Natoli Joss, "...you better make sure that you don't hurt an animal around her. She does take in account for accidents though." She thought to see if she could think of anyone else. "Other than that, I can't think of any teachers to watch out for...oh, the Forestry and Survival professor is really protective of the forest I've noticed from having him. I didn't really get any odd teachers last semester."

Mellianne looked around. "Unfortunately, I don't know which classes are still the same and which ones are new. And I don't know which group the new classes are in. We're split into two groups and can choose from half of the classes the first semester and the other half the next semester. I'm in Group A, which means this semester, I can take any of the Group B professor's classes."

Less gave a rather impressive yawn as he stood up to dispose of his dishes. "Chemistry was a fun class," he said to Mellianne. "I think Thorne's the name of the professor in charge. You have to be good at following instructions to the letter, though. I'm going to go upstairs and change. I will be in my dorm if anyone needs me."
Less had spent far too long in human form already. The isolated nature of the town near his pack had meant that when the new airport had closed due to ice freezing over the airplanes, no one had been able to come thaw them out. In the end he had spent 28 hours awake in and in human form, through four flight transfers. This had been after an 200 mile, 4 day jog across the Hudson Bay, which had frozen over and thus eliminated any chance of taking a boat to Churchill.

(Ack! I missed a bunch of of the conversation...)
Kahlen grinned at Beau, who asked about her abilities. "Well, I'm pretty good at dancing and I can heal myself."
She noticed that one of the new professors looked a lot like Mellianne. "Is the redheaded professor related to you? You both look so much alike."
Mikhail looked around to see if he was going to get more food. Kahlen grinned and gave him a grape.

Beau looked at Kahlen eyes wide. "Cher, you heal too?! I do da same!" He took a knife from the table and made a cut on his arm about 3 inches long. It started to heal immediately and after 15 seconds, there wasn't even a scar. "See dat? I do dat wit' any hurt. Biggah hurt take longah dough. An' it make me somedin fierce hungree." His focus fell on the small, spiny...thing that was being fed by Kahlen. "Now what dat dere? Why you got dat ding, cher? Oh! Beau know! You is gettin' 'im ready ta eat!"

Kahlen was a bit shocked that Beau would actually demonstrate his healing abilities. "Cool," she said. "I usually get sprains and strains that heal themselves. I've never had anything too drastic."
She saw him look at Mikhail. "Yep. He's a hedgehog. His name's Mikhail."
Then he asked if she was getting him ready to eat. Her face took on a horrified expression. "Oh, no! He's definitely not food! Please don't eat him."

Seeing Kahlen's expression, Beau threw his head back and laughed. "Ole Beau jus' teasin' cher. Ain't gonna do nuttin' ta hurt dis lil ding." He took one of his own grapes and set it on the table for Mikhail. Then an almost sheepish look came across his face. "Sorree 'bout da cuttin', da table ain't da place fo' dat. Jus' 'cited, dat's all."

Kahlen sighed in relief. "Oh, okay. Sorry I thought you really wanted to eat him. Someone else asked about that and I got a little startled."
Mikhail most certainly didn't mind the extra grape. He had already inhaled his other one and began munching happily again.
"Oh, that's okay," she said in reply to his apology about his demonstration of his healing abilites. "I think it's cool that someone else can heal like I do."

Mellianne nodded, scowling. "She's my older sister, Natoli. Though I suppose it's now Professor Joss. She didn't even tell me she was going to teach here! I can't believe it. I actually got to see her this year at Christmas cause she was home for once in probably seven-eight years instead of traveling the world, and she never mentioned teaching! But she'll probably be teaching something to do with animals. She loves them."

Kahlen laughed at Mellianne's expression. "Your sister, eh? Kind of funny that she surprised you. Perhaps she 'forgot?'"
Kahlen dissolved into giggles. She pulled herself together to say, "I'll have to take her classes. I love animals. -And- she'll probably want to see Mikhail."

Mellianne snorted. "Probably. She seems to like teasing me." She then turned her glare, not a real one anymore of course, to Kahlen. "Sure, laugh. But yeah, she loves all the animals on the ranch. Might be more than someone normally would though because she can talk to them. I hope she'll be in the group of teachers you'll get this semester."

Herbie slowly strolled into the dining hall, looking very carefully that there was notting he was stepping on, and got a tray with breakfast, which was waffles with grapefruit juice. He joined on one end of the table, conveniently placing him somewhere close to the more girl-populated side.
"Good mo'ning evrybody, an' all a happy fi'st deey in school! I ken't believe de mattresses in dis plees, dey're so soft an' cushy. It's just a bit cold outside, no? Much warmah at home den 'ere."

Kahlen grinned in response to Mellianne's fake glare. "She can talk to them? That's really cool. I've always wondered what's been going on in Mikhail's head."
She rubbed his ears. "Even if I'm not in her group, perhaps I can secretly attend."

"Oh, before you leave, I'll warn you about someone. He's not a teacher but a student... Verin. He's a demon, or at least part demon, and he's a maniac. He likes hurting things and scaring the living daylights out of people. He's got dark wings, black clothes with lots of metal on them. You should try to avoid him if you spot him. I don't know which suite he's in this semester, but I'm glad as hell he isn't in mine anymore after what happened last time."
Damien glanced up at Beau, hoping the warning was in time. He didn't wish Verin on anybody.

As Beau exited the dining hall, Alaine Kensington ducked under the doorframe to go inside for dinner. Hers was chicken fried steak with vegetables and mashed potatoes, which she set down next to natoli on a table.
"Good evening. Miss Joss, I presume? Welcome to St. Dymphna's. I'm Alaine Kensington, I teach biology and archaeology here."
