Name: Jocelyn Madison Crawford Tate
Age: 36
Hair color: Brown
Eye color: Green
Height: 5'5"
Appearance: Jocelyn Tate is a healthy, fairly attractive woman close to middle age. She has shoulder length brown hair, green eyes, and an average build, not particularly skinny or stocky. She dresses rather formally, usually wearing a business suit with a skirt. In a more casual setting she might wear a shirt or blazer and jeans or slacks.
Biography: Jocelyn Tate is the daughter of late Governor Benjamin Tate and businesswoman Katherine Crawford. Jocelyn was headed for a career in politics since a child, and this reflects in the way she composes and presents herself: prim and proper, outgoing, sociable and no-nonsense. She was enrolled in an Ivy League school to study political science and economics, but after three years (including an exchange year in Finland), when she was 22, her parents died in a car accident.
Jocelyn was persuaded to drop her school to run for her father's seat as governor, but was far too inexperienced and she suspects her late father's advisors were desperate to use her as a stand-in candidate even though she was not ready. She excelled in the debates and demonstrated a keen mind for politics and economics, but she then gained national fame after breaking down in tears in a press conference, buckling under pressure from the journalists.
Much of her parents estate was squandered in the election campaign, but she was able to finish her degree with the remainder. Feeling burned out by politics, she graduated with a Master's in education instead, with top grades. Working with kids, she felt, would not be as stressful as politics.
Unfortunately, this couldn't have been further from the truth. Either she would have to teach at public schools, where the pay is terrible, the conditions are awful, you're liable to get shot or worse when out at night, and most of the children don't give a damn. Or then you could teach at a private school, which is full of empty vacuous airheads, who don't give a damn either, but who are also rich beyond belief and snooty on top - reminding her of the time when she was like that herself.
Now she's working at St Dymphna's, because the pay is better than anywhere else, and because it's at least different from most other schools.
Personality: She is very sociable and extroverted, but harbors a deep dislike for children, especially those students who do not care about her class at all. She considers what she teaches extremely important (isn't it?) and thinks anyone who disagrees with her to be virtually subhuman - not certainly a member of the 'demos'. She gets along well with her peers, although many after meeting her think there is something 'strange' about her.
She says spends her free time reading, writing her PhD thesis and exercising, but she also loves watching TV and movies, and has a formidable DVD collection - hidden underneath a layer of Bach and Beethoven CDs in her apartment. Not that she doesn't love classical music, but do you have any idea how great Seven is? The one with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman?
Class taught: Civic studies (i.e. government, politics and economics)
Skills: Somewhat persuasive and charismatic, quick on her feet, extremely intelligent, speaks several languages (English, French, German, Swedish, Finnish).
Sue/Stu Traits:
child of politician(s) -10
