Name: Dr. Kamala Avani Lakshmi
Age: 40
Hair color: Black
Eye color: Brown
Height: 5'7"
Appearance: Dr. Lakshmi is strikingly beautiful, with long dark hair pulled back from her face in a ponytail and cascading down her back. She wears glasses, which she is quite fond of, and refuses to go for laser eye surgery. She has a penchant for labcoats, as any good scientist should, but rather incongruously wears old, beat-up sneakers with them all the time. When not in the lab, she wears cargo shorts and a t-shirt - usually with some horrendously geeky slogan. She has a stylized, outline-only tattoo of a lotus flower on her left shoulder.
Biography: Kamala was born and raised in Chicago, the youngest of three daughters, and went to UC-Berkeley for her undergrad. She was active in several dance troupes, as she had a knack for it. When she was a sophomore, she was struck by a drunk driver on the way back from a party. She lost the use of both legs in the accident. After a few months of severe depression, she decided to combine her love of robotics and nanotechnology with her physical therapy. She kept her grades up, working on her solution to her problem - nanobots that constructed conductive pathways to pass the signals from her brain to her scarred legs. It took three years...but when she was called for her diploma at graduation, she stood up on her own two legs, and - rather shakily - walked to receive it, to thunderous applause. It was during this time that she began work on her pet project, an AI that she dubbed LoTUS. She established a company to work on it, Daedalus Designs, Inc.
She got her doctorate from Johns Hopkins, and walked right out of school and into a government contract. As she worked on LoTUS, she strengthened her legs. Due to the accident, she is infertile, and considers LoTUS to be her son of sorts. She has also grafted a dataport onto the back of her neck for better, faster communication with the computers. This, combined with the nanobots in her system, has turned her into a sort of technopath.
Personality: Kamala is a pretty happy-go-lucky person, considering all that's happened to her. She loves butter pecan ice cream and will happily dance at the drop of a hat. When she talks about robotics and the technology that let her walk again, her face lights up and she chats about it nonstop. She's generally a chatty person. In the lab, she can be a bit short-tempered, and insists on doing most everything herself because most can't do it right.
Class taught: Applied Robotics, Biotech, and Nanotechnology
Skills: Unparalleled knowledge of robotics and associated fields, killer tango skills
