Susan took a deep breath of the bracing midwinter air and lowered her hood, hair tied back in a stubby ponytail. The jacket was removed to reveal a dark green sweater beneath, folded for placement on a rock, and then replaced by a bulky knife harness that covered much of her back in jet-black kevlar and crossed over her chest. Six long-knives protruded from device handle out, two left, two right, two up, in easy reaching distance. Her jeans were tucked into a pair of scuffed boots. All in all, an athletically-built young lady looking ready to do some damage to someone or something.
Taking in the stretch of beach to eiether side of her with a contented smile, the Daunt scion started going through her pre drill warmup, humming distractedly as she worked out the kinks. It had been too long and even if this place lacked a formal training grounds, this should do... Long as no one unwelcome stumbled on her that is.

Beiling was practicing above the shore, on a cliff face that overlooked the beach. Her outfit was unchanged from normal, one would think she should be a popsicle. But alas, her qi store kept her warm.
She had been working on integrating Yang's lessons into her fighting style with fairly mediocre results. Precision wasn't her strong suit, her qi attacks often wasted energy. Yang's training was working her towards controlled and efficient qi usage.
"Right, lets try it again." Beiling said as she lifted her leg up high, concentrating qi into her thigh. As she stomped down on the ground, the qi flowed into the ground as a wave. A small local tremor erupted as the wave of qi spread out, dissipating in a 10 foot circle. "Argh, this is so hard!" she yelled out, covering up the sound of rocks cracking beneath her feet. Apparently, causing small earthquakes on cliff edges is a bad idea. Something Beiling learned as the rock surface crumbled beneath her. The drop wasn't bad, only 10 feet, but landing on broken rock doesn't feel good.

Susan wasn't quite fast enough to go from a stretch to a dead sprint in time to intercept a falling person she hadn't seen before, but she was able to get there by the time the dust started settling, looking over a pile of rocks and a slightly-underdressed redhead sprawled atop them.
"You okay?" she ventured from the edge of the rockpile, a frown on her lips and one hand on her hips, backlit by the sun.

Beiling felt the pain of the fall all over her body, but nothing was broken or bleeding. She pushed herself up on her haunches, "Yeah, I am fine....Man, that would be really powerful if I could do it right." her voice was distant and dreamy.

"What? Break the ground at your opponent by hitting it the right way? That's *easy* if you have the right strength and footing behind you," Susan answered lightly, relieved and offering a hand to the taller girl, "One of my big brother taught me how to do it when I was eight."
"Oh. My name's Susan Daunt. You?"

Beiling took that hand and stood up, seeming to be fine. "I am Beia Meiling, but everyone calls me Beiling around here." She turned back to the broken rock. "I never had fine control of my qi, but I am learning." She smiled. "So you know how to fight?"

"A little," answered Susan glibly, pulling out two long knives from her harness, tossing them spinning up in the air above her head, and catching them again to jam them back in the harness, showing off a little with a big grin, "It's a family thing I have going for me. And... What was that word you used? Qui? Chi?"

"Qi, though I have heard people call it chi." She was thoroughly unimpressed with the knives, having already seen a master of knife play back home. They did however, make her hesitant and on edge. "What is your name?"

"Susan Daunt," she repeated, allowing that the girl might have been distracted by her fall. Not everyone was as robust of herself or her kin, so it was only polite to make allowances.
"In case you're curious about the knives, I'm out here to keep up my skills. The school, wonderful as it is, doesn't have a formal training grounds, stupid as that sounds, so this beach seemed like a good spot to do it," the Daunt scion smiled and looked up at the cliff, "By the sound of it, you had the same idea. Mind sharing the beach? I keep to my half, you to yours, and if you're up to it, maybe a little light sparring at the end?"

"Fine by me, though I tend to be boring when practicing." Beiling commented moving off a little bit to one side of the beach. Her practice consisted mostly of slow tai chi routines and spiraling rainbow discs, though one unfortunate boulder was destroyed by Beilings Scarlet Crush.

Susan's practise was slightly more active, building from simple punch, kick, and slashing drills to routines marked by flashing black knives that impaled themselves in stone with sharp cracks and grunted leaps that ended in puffs of flying sand.
The best defense was an offense and the best offense was based on movement, flashy attention grabbing movement at that, the kind that would give a police sniper with a silver bullet the opening to pump a shot into the beast's skull for example.
The Daunt scion walked up towards Beia's half of the beach, coated in light layer of sand with a smile made even more genuine by the slight adrenaline buzz she was riding. This was going to be interesting if those rainbow saws she had spotted out of the corner of her eye meant anything at all.

Beiling had practiced for a bit, before being over come by the warm sun. She promptly took a nap, and was still at it when Susan walked over.

Susan frowned down at the girl. She hadn't been *that long* had she? And Beia certainly couldn't be that rude, could she, to pretend to fall asleep in this weather?
"Hey! All warmed up. You ready?" she called, nudging the other girl with a booted foot.

Beiling woke up in a panic, "AAAH, no knifes in my head!" Her arms covered her head protectively, somewhat cute in her attempt. It took a second of hesitation before she peaked out between her fingers.
"Oh...um....right. What were we doing?" she asked, slightly ashamed.

Susan smiled and offered a hand to the other girl, "Nonlethal sparring, or since we don't know each other's limits yet, first person to draw blood wins the point and then we stop. At least that's how we did it at IEC's Exhibition Tournament when I was twelve. Placed fourth out of twenty-six for the preteens division."

"Sounds good enough." Beiling said, grabbing Susan's hand. Walking a bit to give some distance she readies herself, leg already prepared for a spiral kick. "Ready to start?" Her shadow was barely present, high noon. How appropriate.

Susan's answer was to charge with a big smile on her sand-dusted face, boots propelling her forward with puffs of erupting sand and a slate-black long knife held point down in each hand. She attempted to close the distance quickly, lashing out one-two-three with the 'D' engraved pummels of her weapons, rock-cracking strength behind each strike.

Beiling was slightly taken off guard by Susan charging her. She decided to move out of the way, sending a pulse of qi into the ground to assist her backward jump, leaving a trail carved into the sand by her feet.
"You don't throw your knifes? How strange." Was her only comment before kicking a rainbow spiral at Susan, the very edge of it melting the sand.

"Why would I," Susan answered, pausing to jink sideways from the blast, "Do something stupid like that? Wrong kind of knife."
She puncuated her last sentence by leaping twelve feet off the ground and aiming to land right on top of Beiling with one of her ass-kicker boots extended, stumpy ponytail flapping behind her.

Beiling was expecting another full frontal assault already. She launched herself into straight into the air, spinning around to come down with the heel of her foot. Her skirt was flying up, good thing she wore shorts unlike her mother.
Her foot lacked any visual effects, which most likely meant she wasn't putting any effort into the attack. Evident from her earlier practice.

"Heh," Susan exhaled at Baia's deft counter after landing, "Nice."
She planted herself and raised her arms above her head to block the strike with with knife blades positioned to impale her opponent's calf with her own momentum and hopefully score her the point. Baia seemed tough enough to take it, after all.

Deciding that a knife in her leg would be bad, Beia re-purposed her kick to know the knife out of her hand. She had forgotten this was a fight to first blood, though still knew this was a practice fight.
If this human could hold onto her knife after the kick, maybe she could balance on it and get a kick secondary kick in?

The knife went flying with the strike, spinning end over end to impale a sand dune, while Susan tumbled in the opisite direction, a huge grin plastered on her face. She produced a third knife from her harness to replace the lost one, springing back into the fray with a pounding of her boots and an exultant 'Haaa!'
The Daunt scion revered her grip on her blades and slid to a halt, left blade singing upward at Beia's arm in a blurred arc of black.

Beia arced her back to dodge the incoming blow. She continued the motion, pressing her hands firmly to the ground. Legs snapping upward towards Susan's head.
Beia was being oddly quiet, trying to focus her qi properly as instructed by Yang.

Susan's energy, in comparison, flared and crackled through her body like a turbulent stream as she fought, born from a well deep in her soul as it reinforced her body and fueled her strength.
The Daunt scion grunted as the strike connected with her jaw and sent her flying up and onto her back. She kept a grip on her knives and rolled back to her feet, pounding in for an alternating thrust-slash-thrust pattern of strikes at her opponent's arms, air humming faintly with the power of each blow.

Beiling kept back tracking, why was she playing all defense? Time to reverse this trend.
Beiling did a extra long jump back while she swinged her arms around in a spiral pattern. As her feet planted onto the ground, yellow waves of energy erupted from her hands, pulsing for a few seconds. She didn't hold the attack for long, it obscured the line of sight to Susan which is what she wanted.
Kicking off with qi energy, she charged into the fray. Her fist raised and striking as soon as she acquired her target. She was putting far more energy into this than before, abandoning her attempt at precise control.

Susan spun up her dagger hilts to block, driven back several feet by the impact on her indestructable weapons and feeling the shock of the blow up through her arms. She grinned, blue eyes sparkling, "Oh. That's more like it."
She tossed one of her knives straight up in the air a full fifteen feet, the other lunging hilt first at Beia's temple in a reflexive counter strike while she set up for her Three Knive's Dancing Technique.

Beiling had kept charging and was spinning around to deliver a powerful kick when she saw the knife in the air. Forgoing her original attack, she launched herself nearly straight up into the air. Her kick was redirected to launch a rainbow spiral upward at the knife.
Depending on on how that went down, she would drop back down to earth with several swift kicks aimed at Susan and a yelling battle cry "YAAAAAAAAW". Seems concentration was no longer any concern, it was funner this way.

Annoyed as her knife was deflected by the shot off into the shallows of the lake, Susan wasn't so annoyed that she forgot the incoming threat, drawing another knife and stepping back just enough to avoid any landing strike.
She spun on one booted foot, left arm and the heavy metalic hilt it was holding extended to quite nastily break Meia's leg as she came down. Her parents had always taught her that jumping in combat as a option of last resort only. Beia didn't seem to have been taught that fact.

Beiling saw Susan move away and start to spin around. She grimaced. 'Oh, this is going to hurt...but lets try something...'
She kept her leg extended out, while tucking the rest of her body in. Her energies focusing for sudden release.
The hilt connected with her lower leg, causing Beiling, with her small center of gravity, to spiral around. The strike hurt, like one of those knifes back home, but the sudden amount of qi energy overrode that. Her arms and legs spun faster that her body as she unleashed all her pent of energy.
Four of the spiraling saws flew out of her limbs and towards Susan. A whole slew of smaller colorful balls of energy flew out at random. It didn't last long, as she landed on her stomach. She scrambled up and started to charge towards Susan, qi energy flooding her right arm.
