The sun was shining brightly through the windows in the early afternoon as Kitty Callahan waited for her students. It was weird to think of herself having students. She had only recently been told that she didn't need to sleep in her office and that housing was available. That unnerved her. She wasn't really used to having her own space. I guess this is a vacation.
She sat behind the desk, feet up, and nose buried in a John le Carré novel. Her hair was bright pink today, and she was chewing on the end of a pen nervously. Would anyone even show up?

Mellianne looked around cautiously as she entered the room. She really wasn't sure what to expect from this class. Walking up towards a desk in the front, she noticed the teacher had pink hair but couldn't remember any teachers with hair that color. Still thinking, she sat down and pulled out a notebook and a pencil.

Aurora followed, her outfit different only in very subtle differences - the exact shape of lights around the trim of her dress and how some of the silver lines traced the contours of her face.
Spotting Melieanne, she decided now was a good time to introduce herself since she shared so many classes with her. "Hi, my name is Aurora, if you didn't catch it before - I don't think we've ever been properly introduced," she said with a small curtsy before taking a seat next to Mellianne.

Mellianne turned to Aurora. "No, I don't believe we have been. I'm Mellianne. It's a pleasure to meet you." As she was wearing shorts and already sitting, she decided on bowing in her seat. It was a bit hard, but she managed it.

"This is the supernatural powers class, right?" She makes a sidelong glance at Kitty and says with a giggle, "She seems like someone who would teach a class like that."

Sneaking another glance at Professor Callahan, Mellianne stretched. "Yeah, too both. I hope this class is going to be as interesting as it looks like it will be."

Desi edges her way into the classroom, looking uncertain.
"Uh... does anybody know whether you're still supposed to take this class if you don't have any supernatural powers?"

Kitty looked up then, pen half-in her mouth, The Mission Song mid-page-turn. "You can if you want! We don't discriminate in here, and besides, I think it'll be fun!"
She looked at the three girls. "So, this is everyone? I was hoping for a bigger turnout...but oh well!" The professor shut her book and beamed at the students. "Hi! I'm Kitty...but if you must stand on ceremony, call me Professor Callahan. Who're you all, what's the haps?"

Mellianne blinked at Kitty. "Um. I'm Mellianne." She wasn't really sure if she should bother with her last name, and what in the world did that last bit even mean? Growing up in a small town and not having many friends while there did not help when dealing with things like slang at all.

"Great. Can I call you Mel? Or Mellie?" Kitty asked, looking down at her desk for an attendance sheet that wasn't there. "So, uh, yeah, this is the Supernatural Powers class. I intended today to be an easy go, so we can just hang out and you all can ask me questions about any, uh, unusual stuff you can do."

Mellianne blinked yet again. She did not know what to think of this teacher. "Um, I guess Melli is alright." At the offer to ask questions, she sorta shrugged. She already knew what she did, which was being able to control water and she didn't really have any questions about it at the moment.

"I'm Aurora, Mrs. Kitty." She thought a moment about what 'unusual' things she could do. It was kind of hard to draw the line between 'regular' and 'unusual' since what she did came so second nature to her.
"I make certain things... or maybe ask them, except it's not really ask because they can't really say no, so maybe I tell certain things..." she had a pretty good idea of what she could affect, but she couldn't articulate it very well. 'Machines' was too simplistic since she could affect any worked metal of sufficient complexity. Of course, she thought about it in much simpler terms than even that.
"I can tell things to do stuff."

She laughed. "Mrs.? Oh, Powers, no. I'm too young to be married."
Kitty nodded sagely. "Useful talent, that. Now, are these things usually nonsapient? 'Cause I've tried to tell cats to do stuff, and they just look at me funny." She had a similar power herself, built upon basic persuasion. "Of course, it's better if you ask first. So, what do you use this power for? Not evil, I hope?" she asked, grinning.

"Oh, no, I can only tell things that have been... made, I guess. Like, see that chair? I can ask certain parts to do things." She made a gesture, and all the screws in the chair popped out, causing it to collapse into a pile of wood and plastic panels and metal pipes. Parts that had been rivetted together remained in tact, however.
"It doesn't work on any animals or humans that I know of." With another gesture the deskchair reassembled in more or less the same shape.

"Faaaaascinating," Kitty said, getting up and inspecting the reassembled chair. "That's oddly specific. But very useful. And--" she looked at Aurora for the first time - really looked at her. The bells on her headband jingled quietly. "My, my. I like your markings!" she said. "Are they related to your power? I know they often can be."

"Oh - that's a bit... a little more difficult to explain," she stammered, unconciously moving her hands over some of the silver strands in her skin. "M-Mellianne, you can control water, right?" She seemed to recall that at the beach, the elf throwing water balls at people.

Mellianne had been watching Aurora and Kitty talk interestedly, so hadn't been expecting her name to be mentioned. A little shocked, she answered Aurora. "Um. Yeah, I can control water."

Kitty nodded again - she really needed to stop doing that, it was making her feel quite a bit like a bobblehead. "A hydromancer, eh? Good. Good. Useful talent, that, especially if you can do it well. Is it only water you can work with, or other liquids?"
She laughed suddenly, her hair going bright blue. "Oh, look at me; I've been asking you all what you do and I haven't even done anything myself! Rude, isn't it?"
Tongue poking slightly out of her mouth in concentration, she unzipped what appeared to be thin air and her arm disappeared into it up to the elbow. "C'mere, c'mere...gotcha, you little snake," she said, and withdrew what looked like a silver charm bracelet. "This is my most recent project. Go on, expand," she said to it, and the bracelet did - but it wasn't quite a bracelet anymore, just loops and strings of glowing characters in some odd, flowing script. She examined one of the strings closely, picking it up and running it through her hand. "Whoops, typo," she said, and corrected a curve.

Mellianne tried to think of what she had used her powers with. "Um. I've never tried using it with anything but water. I guess I never really thought about it either."
She quickly paused when Kitty changed her hair color, pulled something out of thin air, and turned it into writing of some sort. She had no idea that the second two things were even possible. Was this the rumored hammer-space from anime and manga?

"You should try it! It'd be cool, I think," Kitty said, smiling at Mellianne. She squished the words of light back together and suddenly it was just a bracelet again, shining silver in her hands.
"So yeah. That's what I do. I use words. I ask things - nicely - to do things for me. I can talk a door into unlocking, or air into becoming solid. But it takes a lot of energy. It's a lot easier to do things the normal way...but it's not as fun!"
