Aurora went through a series of thoughts that were more or less evident by her features. At first, wondered why a deer would have a spare animal skin to give to Less, or any of those other things. Deer were, as far as she was aware, normal animals, and not intelligent ones. The sudden look of shock marked when she realized that Less aimed to kill the deer.
"Why do you have to kill a deer for that!?" she wasn't really yelling so much as raising her voice in a kind of shocked concern. "Can't you just get that stuff from a store?"

Mellianne shook her head as she tried to explain human eating habits to Less. "Humans tend to only eat muscle meat. It's part of their diet nowadays. Their tastes have changed, and to most, eating anything other than the meat would seem gross. As humans, and elves as well, are omnivores, we also eat greens, so anything other than the meat seems to have lost it's value among us. Though there are some who are still hunters like you and yours."

Kahlen patted Aurora on the shoulder. "It's okay. Less won't make it suffer and he won't let anything go to waste."
She wasn't sure Aurora knew much about hunting, considering her questions and shock at what Less said.

Less raised an eyebrow. "Where do you think the store got it?" he asked as he split a fish stick in half with his fork. "Any deer skin came from a killed deer. It's better to hunt it yourself, because that way you know the rest of the deer hasn't gone to waste." Holding up a hand he said, "And I know what you're going to say next. Artificial, plant-based skins won't work. I intend to be taking it with me when I return home, and fake skins don't retain heat as well. It's easy to freeze to death if you have poor clothes."
He held up a forkful of potato. "I can eat greens, but I mostly need meat. I wouldn't be able to survive on an entirely plant diet. Do you?"

verin walked out of the kitchen, with a slab of raw meat on a plate. The plate had pooled with blood, and dripped slightly at one side. He walked by the group just as they were having their conversation. "It's probably why the earthly races are so weak and magical talent is rare, honestly. Blood is great for magic. Cannibalism seems to work for some of the lower houses, although most of them are insane. Admittedly, I wouldn't need to sustain myself like this usually on a regular basis but right now I'm pretty much the prophet on Earth for a God of death and that comes with certain responsibilities. Animal meat isn't really cutting it anymore though so, heads up, just because I like you a lot."

Mellianne smiled at Less. "I can because my body is adapted to it slightly, though it still needs some nutrients from meat. But there are those that do eat only greens for various reasons. Our bodies are adapted to where we need the greens to survive as well as meat."
She turned to Verin, raising an eyebrow. "First off, you'll probably find yourself in trouble with someone who could take you on if you try to kill us. Secondly, the earthly races are not weak, we have technology and other works of art, just because not all of our strength is magical does not mean we are worthless. Thirdly, cannibalism would not work for us mortal races, we would want something better tasting. And lastly, I would appreciate it if you left us alone in your rather pathetic attempt of actually feeding yourself. I think you'll find us much to expensive for your poor wallet. We happen to be protected by this school and if you think you'll get away with even trying something, I expect you'll get in so much trouble, you'll be lucky to get time to hunt." Half of her speech is sarcastic, but the other half was her being dead serious.
((sorry if it sounds off, but it's dinner time, and i wanted to get the post in before dinner....so if you need clarification on something Mellianne said, ask and I'll try and edit it to sound better))

A look of outrage appeared on Verin's face for a split second. Then he started laughing. When he recovered, he said "Pathetic, she says. I'm not trying to feed myself, oh no. I have fear and loathing for sustenance. It's more like tribute. It doesn't really take much out of my day, I'm killing things left and right as it is."
"I think these threats will be the first to go. Then all the ones who seek help from more powerful people, snivelling little weaklings. Then the rest. And remember, when death comes for you, it will have no name and no face. Only fear."
Verin made for the door to eat in peace.

Kahlen internally sighed as Verin showed up. She didn't like him after the bus incident and wasn't going to go out of her way to be near him.
"-Thank- you," Kahlen whispered to Mellianne. She quite agreed with everything Mellianne had said. Verin's attitude was very annoying as well as his underestimation of humans.
Kahlen relaxed after Verin started for the door. She was glad that he wasn't there to start any fights.

Destiny read her pamphlet while eating her hamburger, feeling a little comforted that someone else at this school also had trouble with spelling, and wondering what it might be like to go hunting with a werewolf, and whether they let girls come. Absently, she folded the pamphlet into a neat paper airplane (the same fate suffered by many of the pieces of paper that came into her possession).
Seeing the confrontation between Verin and Mellianne, she commented, "He's mean, isn't he?"
Destiny didn't particularly like mean people. She chucked the paper airplane at Verin, though her horrible aim sent the little craft into a nosedive only two feet after it left her hand.

Michelle watched the altercation in disgust. "Thanks for getting my gun confiscated," she told Less, before picking a burger, fries, coke, and cheesecake.

"You shot me. Did you really think it wouldn't get confiscated?" Less asked rhetorically as he finished off the fish sticks.

Mellianne waved her hand at Kahlen. "No prob. I was actually having fun." She smirked. "I think the next approach to him shall be: cloyingly sappiness. He bugs me and that somehow makes me want to squash him, or at least make him a little more human."
Turning to Destiny, Mellianne switched to a more natural smile. "Yeah, he is. However, if we are afraid of him, that gives him power over us, so we have to show that he doesn't scare us."
Her attention now of Michelle and Less, Mellianne raised an eyebrow. "You shot a civilian, Lass. That could have surely gotten you court-marshaled. Plus, Less isn't even an American citizen, so that would have caused an international incident. Bet your higher ups wouldn't like it if anything more had come from this."

"The security cameras would have caught it anyway; according to the headmistress they'll soon be able to recover the footage from them." He picked up a butter-laden forkful of mashed potatoes. "And really, there aren't a lot of students here with guns; it wouldn't take long to figure out."

Michelle turned her attention to Melliane. "Less than Beta was armed and therefore an enemy combatant. How do you think he planned to keep Rena from confiscating those computers?"

Desi shrugged. "I'm scared of lots of things," she said. "People are always scared of things. Only sometimes you just gotta be scared later, instead of now."
This deeply philosophical statement made, she reflected for a while and then asked, "Michelle, did you shoot him 'cause you didn't want to be scared?"

Destiny didn't seem to get it. Good. Michelle put a comforting hand on Destiny's shoulder and, adopting the same tone as a recruiter trying to get a student to enlist, explained, "Destiny, Less was guarding something that would have made a lot of people scared. He may not have openly threatened Rena, but if she had tried to push past him, what do you think he would have done to her?"

"No," said Michelle, quickly looking for an excuse; she had not expected that response, "If he had run to get a teacher we would have been free to take what he was guarding back to the Pentagon for study. Instead, he would have attacked Rena and me in wolf form, the way he attacked Verin on the bus."

Mellianne smirked at Michelle. "Well little Missy. You really think your higher ups will appreciate the baby's excuses. Sure Less is a were. However, as a Canadian, he is among those that are considered the USA's allies. I'm sure the higher ups will appreciate you causing trouble with that. Plus Rena doesn't have any more authority than you do. You're both under-aged, and in the custody of the school now therefore under the same rules the rest of us sweeticakes."
To Destiny, Mellianne smiled again. "Well, sure, we're all scared of something. Verin just likes to make it worse, so not being scared of him, makes him wimpy."
Mellianne snorted at what Michelle was telling Destiny. "First off, shooting is no way to stop someone in human form. Secondly, Rena had no authority to take the supercomputer. And scary? Should have known someone like you would be afraid of anything smarter than you, which is cockroach level, cutie."
Mellianne was aiming to piss Michelle off, maybe the names would work.
((and cockroaches being dumb, I don't know if its true, but my brother and I decided it had to be after one of our younger brothers left the PS2 memory card in the PS2 for our youngest brother to erase one of our games....we needed something to compare him too))

"I'll admit, I didn't know Verin was going to be like this at first," said Michelle, "But if Less is willing to attack a demon then I'd say he's willing to bite anyone." Michelle made a note to find and delete the security footage as soon as possible.

Less made a disbelieving sound. "A snarl is not the same as an attack. You could ask the teacher who pulled me off the chair. At no point did I get close to him." He scraped the remnants of butter into a pile and scooped it up. "Do all military people equate a simple dominance display with an attack? It would explain complaints I have heard from the villagers about the United States."

Michelle wasn't about to give up just yet, "No, I wouldn't shoot just anybody." Michelle wasn't entirely lying; she wouldn't shoot anyone who stayed out of the way. She continued, "but Less and Verin are both doing really bad things. Verin's behavior you've already seen, and Less than Beta was trying to protect an Artificial intelligence that could easily enslave humanity. And his fellow werewolves."

"Because newborns are so much of a threat. I do not see why you would be afraid of babies. Humans are far more likely to enslave humanity. You should know this, being military." Less snorted, then went to dispose of his dishes.

"The living computer was a baby. Harmless. The silver girl Aurora could talk to it, had you been paying attention instead of waving firearms around." Less snorted again and used one of his pamphlets to pick dirt from under his nails.
