Name:Shihab
Age:
48; looks fourteenish
Hair color:
Black, highlights either red or blue, depending on certain astrological points. He’s not even sure what they are, honestly.
Eye color:
Black
Height:
5’8”
Appearance:
Shihab is half-djinni, and half-human. He’s got dark tan skin, maybe the color of very strong chai. he has strong, wide cheekbones, making his face almost cat-shaped, and wears his hair in a shortish mullet that just about covers his neck. He’s pretty well-muscled, due to his fairly long stint poling river-boats, as well as other physical labor – and vain enough about it to exercise, in order to keep it.
Biography:
Shihab’s mother was a waitress in Delhi. His father was a djinni who developed a ‘thing’ for her. They started dating, had a bit of a fling, and then all the sudden, Osanna was pregnant, and ‘Amir,’ the name his father had taken on, remembered urgent business in the netherworld and had to go. He did leave her a small fortune, enough to take care of their child, and stuck around to make sure the birth went well – all without ever mentioning his nature to Osanna, at all.
Anyway, Shihab was an unusually bright and clever infant, and grew unusually quickly. He learned to speak by eight months, and was trilingual by the time he was two. At least, that’s what his mother thought; it later turned out that he could speak any tongue, human, beast, or supernatural. He’d only been tested in three. Once he was about five years old, his growth seemed to slow to a halt, and he remained at that age for a few years. His mother aged normally, and realized by the time he should’ve been sixteen, and was apparently just about eight or nine, that something was a bit off. When she was seventy-two, and he was technically thirty, but appeared to be thirteen or so, she passed away from a genetic heart condition. Shihab, aware by now that something wasn’t right with him, but unsure what it was, wandered off into the world with not much more than the clothes on his back.
He’d been doing odd jobs and finding ways to support himself for about a year when his father showed up, out of the blue – well, out of the black, since it was in a dream. He found himself dreaming every night of a strange, ethereal, humanoid Being of Fire, which flew on flaming clouds across the night sky, looking for something. After about a week, he awoke to find a man who he recognized from an old picture of his mother’s standing over him. There were a few details that hadn’t been in the picture—the eyes, which appeared to be live coals; the wings of fire; the height, of eight or nine feet. His father explained to him certain things – that he was half djinn, that his powers would start appearing soon, and that what he did now was up to him, since he appeared old enough to fend for himself. He was left a sort of calling card in the form of a tattoo/scar, a fairly real-looking comet across his chest, and went about his day as usual.
At some point, maybe a year or two later, he decided he’d had enough of spending his days on the river, and decided to seek further education; his powers, as promised, were coming in, but he wanted to learn more about the world. After some searching, he found an application to St. Dymphna’s, filled it out, and, after a dream-conversation with his father, set off. And here we are.
Personality:
Shihab is, for all he’s got a long backstory, not a troubled sort. He’s got his father’s spirit, and it shows. The world is a fun place, an interesting place, and he doesn’t have the patience to sit around moping about things. He’s pretty carefree, likes a good laugh, and seeks out people to laugh with. He will play jokes, but is generally not cruel. He also loves music, and has a soft spot for folk and blues, paradoxically enough. He heard a lot of round-types of songs on the barge, and grew to love them. One of the things he wants to learn is music theory, as he has a good voice, but no real understanding of music deeper than a good ear for tone.
Skills:
Good voice, effective brawler (he’s had practice). Pretty strong, has some rudimentary control over fire, and can understand and speak any tongue, human or no. Is beginning to get a grasp on changing shape, though the actual changing tires him, and he’s still very much at home in his own body. Has lucid dreams, and sometimes stumbles into others’. (This would, of course, be worked out OOC.) Picks things up fairly quickly, but can get impatient when others are a bit slower.
