Aurora would often wander the grounds when she wasn't attending classes - and only the grounds, because of her detention. She still didn't understand why she was being punished for something that wasn't her fault, but she put it from her mind.
On a whim, she sat down on one spot a ways away from the buildings. It was a nice view - she could see the drive and the forest from this point. It must have been a small park area, as the grass was fairly well groomed. The area she chose had thinning grass however, as it served her purpose a bit better.
Once situated, the liquid metal of her arms and legs and the majority of her dress drained off her, leaving the equivalent of a two-piece swimsuit on, and her mundane skeletal prosthetics visible. The rest drained into the ground, Aurora watching the billions of nanites drain away passively.
Within seconds, they began to resurface, bringing with them trace amounts of something that they stowed into a single pile. After a few minutes, there was a pile of tiny grey/silver rough particles and fragments about the size of Aurora's fist sitting in front of her. From there, the liquid metal formed around the pile, and began superheating it. Forging iron took alot of energy normally, but when you have so microscopic robots that can manually add carbon to the mix and apply heat equally throughout the entire product, the energy requirements could easily be filled with solar energy and a bit of bodily electricity and heat.
When the nanites finally returned, giving her arms and legs their normal silver, shapely form, she was left with a pile of tiny intricately shaped iron pieces. Intricate enough that with a few waves and gestures she rearranged all of them into several figures - a couple of vaguely humanoid figures not an inch tall, a dog, a cat, a lizard, and then something that couldn't easily be described since it was made up of a bunch of extra peices that she must have made extra or had forgotten to add to the other figures. She decided it was an alien.
She started narrating them as she moved them around with her fingers, as if they were on strings.
" 'Mother, Greenhead tripped on my bike and now it's broken.' 'Maybe you shouldn't leave it sitting in the garage then, hmm?' 'You always side with Greenhead! It's not fair!' "
She giggled, so taken with her toys that she wouldn't notice anyone coming up to her.
