Name: LoTUS
Age: Brand new out-of-box
Hair color: Bright red
Eye color: Blue
Height: 6'0"
Appearance: Lotus is humanoid, made of a titanium endoskeleton with white silicon-laced durable plastic exoplating. In an attempt to make him more relatable, and to hide his data-port 'ears', he usually has a mane of bright red 'hair'that makes him look like an anime character come to life. His eyes are usually bright blue, and pupilless, but filled with a deep intelligence. The lines between his plating are usually grey, but glow the same blue as his eyes when he is computing something especially complicated (like theoretical wormhole physics as pertains to the structure of hyperstrings on an infinite plane). Aside from all that, though, he seems human as can be, though of course unnaturally pale. Sure, there's a small blue-glowing port on his back that functions as a combination plug/battery, but that's really one of the only truly robotic things about him.
For excursions out into the world, he wears long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and sunglasses to hide his eyes.
Biography: Work on the Daedalus Project started in 1992, headed by the young AI prodigy Kamala Lakshmi. The world was excited to learn of the attempt to create a true, sentient Artificial Intelligence. Strangely enough, a few years into the project, Daedalus Designs, Inc. went mysteriously bankrupt and was absorbed by the U.S. government. Progress never ceased on the project, which was now directly funded by the government.
Dr. Lakshmi fought tooth and nail to keep her favorite project under her control, and the government aquiesced, allowing her to keep her lab in Silicon Valley. Eighteen years later, the first prototype, called LoTUS, was complete. After several test activations and a lengthy placement process, the government finally relocated Dr. Lakshmi and the protoype to St. Dymphna's, where they'd get to see the project working in real-world simulations. And what better place to test an AI's capacity to learn than a school full of exceptional people?
Personality: Lotus's voice is cultured, and vaguely male. There's no real accent to it, except for that odd sort of flatness that comes of the voice being synthesized. Unlike most artificial life forms in popular culture, he will gain a strong grasp of idioms and figurative language with exposure. He is programmed to be amiable, but most of all, to learn. That's what makes him different; he's a true AI, capable of expanding his own programming. Aside from all of that, though, he's a blank slate. Emotions are the one human trait he has not been programmed with. Therefore, anyone who'll try to make him upset or angry will have quite a road ahead of them...he regards such emotions as interesting human quirks.
He has something called the "Washington Protocol" in his programming - basically a fancy way of saying that he cannot tell a lie. He can say something that is untrue, but only if he does not know it is untrue.
Skills: Incredible computational power, physical strength (not superhuman, but notable)
Sue/Stu Traits:
-Strange Natural Hair Color [+2]
-Cool Marks Other Than Scars [+2]
-Trendy Name [+2]
-Multilingual [+6]
-Robot [+20]
----
-Visibly Glitters (he's a bit shiny.) [-2]
-Responsible [-4]
-Hard Worker [-4]
