Parum had taken her place behind the main desk of the library, and prepared herself for anything the students may need.
This went on for about five seconds before she had decided the ENTIRE library was due for a good cleaning and sorting. Not only that, she had noticed that the library didn't have a set of rules! A quick trip, and she had a set of rules to post on the walls:
1. No Food. 2. No Yelling 3. No Running 4. Nothing Inappropriate 5. No Live Animals 6. Checking out books must be done at the front counter.

Jane walked into the library. Ever since the change, she felt drawn to these sorts of places. The library hadn't been exactly what she was expecting - there were some windows, after all. She looked at the rules. Most of them were okay, but number five... Vampires were little more than animals, but they didn't really count as alive, did they? It didn't really matter, she wasn't going to get kicked out for that. Nobody had to know what she was.
Jane walked over to books and started scanning the shelves. She didn't want anything in particular, just something to keep her busy.

Parum noticed the young girl walking into the library, and walked over to her after putting the book she was reading down.
"Hello, young lady, is there anything I can help you find today?"

Less wandered into the library to try to find a spelling workbook. This probably would have been better had he not been in wolf form at the time. If the librarian were to look towards the shelves, she may see a rather large wolf with a carry pack on its back scanning the titles.

Parum had noticed the wolf. The large, bag-carrying wolf.
There was a wolf in her brand new library.
"NO ANIMALS, FERAL OR OTHERWISE, IN THE LIBRARY!"
In a huff of frustration and perhaps poor judgment, she promptly attempted to take the wolf by the ear and show him the rules list which clearly state '5. No live animals.'

Less did not expect to be suddenly grabbed by the ear. A snarl turned into a slightly less threatening-sounding snarl as the wolf turned into a rather-annoyed and naked human. "What was that for?" Less asked as he tried to simultaneously yank his ear out of the librarian's grip and cinch the quickly-falling carry bag's tie tighter around his waist.

Parum quickly backed away from the now naked boy, who was currently breaking TWO of the library's rules. Well, he had broken one, but changing made him break another. Details!
"PUT. ON. SOME. CLOTHING!"

"I don't have any with me," Less grumbled even as he moved his carry pack to cover himself best he could. Why was he being yelled at? He hadn't been yelled at last semester, and it wasn't as if he were an animal. Weres were between human and animal, and the rules said nothing about weres. So why was he being yelled at? Maybe the lady had expected him to shift clothing onto himself? He didn't know of any weres that could do that, but he supposed anything was possible in such a big world.

"Turn back into a wolf, please LEAVE the library, go get DRESSED, and THEN you may browse the books! The rules say 'No live animals' and 'Nothing Inappropriate', so PLEASE come to the library fully dressed."
Parum huffed, then quickly walked off, thinking to herself that "Why did the werewolf go in the library" sounded like the set up to a bad pun.

"I am a were, not an animal," Less grumbled as he made his way to the library's exit. If he were to shift to wolf form and back again, he would be too tired to browse the stacks of books. With his luck, he would bring home a guide on internet slang or something else that would only make his English skills even worse. He left for his dorm room, ignoring any titters or hastily covered faces he might have caused on the way there. It was only two floors up, after all.

Less returned a while later wearing the school uniform and looking somewhat disgruntled; someone had whistled at him and then laughed when he had asked what that had meant. He went up to the front desk, hoping that the lady would not carry over her yelling to this point in time. "You are the library teacher, right? Will you tell me where I can get books on spelling and learning to put together sentences better?" he asked.

Parum looked up at Less, very, very pleased he was neither a wolf nor naked.
"Yes, I am the librarian, Parum. Follow me and I would be more than happy to show you where the grammar books are."
She walked out from behind her desk, leading Less to a row of books near the door of the library. Taking one of them off the shelf and handing it to Less, she explained the system to book were sorted in.
"This is a basic grammar book for English, explaining all the basics of the language, including tenses and sentence structure. As you go down this row, the books become increasingly advanced, until you hit the next subject. If you need help spelling a word, there is a big dictionary on the check-out desk. If you want to check any books out, come tell me."

Jane had been about to respond when the commotion had started. Despite the oddity of the situation, she didn't really want to get involved. What she felt like doing was finding a book and sitting down to read it. And not get up for a very long time, or until it was done at least. She almost turned around in shock when she heard the librarian shouting about Less being naked, but saved herself from witnessing the indecency at the last moment.
By the time Less had returned, she'd picked up a book about folklore almost at random and had sat down in the darkest corner of the library to read. She adjusted the hood to keep herself hidden.

Parum had noticed the cloaked figure during her explanation to Less about the library's books, and after she had finished moved over to her.
"Hello, is there anything I can help you with?"

Jane registered the librarian's presence without looking up. The book wasn't really that interesting, but she wanted it to appear enthralling. "Actually, if it's okay..." she said quietly. "I was wondering if you knew where the oldest book in this library is. I feel the need to work... chronologically."

Parum thought for a moment, tapping her finger on her own chin.
"The oldest book...well, most of the books here are fairly new, but if you'd like older books, I have a few of my own, if you'd like to look at those. What type of book do you want?"

"Thanks, but no thanks. It's more about this library than anything... if there are any reprints of old stories, or books about ancient events, that would also be fine."

"Oh, if you would like to read history books, then the textbooks area of the library should contain anything you need. They're located right after the math textbooks; would you like me to take you there?"
Parum gestured over to another row of books.

"Yes, that would be great, thank you..." Jane stood up and headed to where Parum was pointing. After looking around for a while, she picked up a book on the time around the baroque and classical periods. Large, empty mansions seemed strangely appealing.
"I suppose I should take this book out. If that's okay."

Parum gestured over to the main desk.
"You go to the front desk, write down your full name, and the name of the book, and you have the book for three days. If you want to check it out further, you must bring it back and fill out the information again, to keep tabs on all the books."

"Certainly."
Jane followed the instructions she'd been given and left the library with the book half lost up the sleeve of her robe, but almost immediately began reading it after she left. It had gotten brighter while she'd been in the library. A cold sun... reading the book gave her an excuse to look down while travelling.

Susan passed the dark-cloaked girl on her way into the Library, a blonde-haired, blue-haired beacon of focused happiness clad in yellow and blue and green. She walked up to the Librarian's desks, silently filed the otherness of the woman's wings away, and commented brightly, "Excuse me, Ma'am! Can you help me find a book or three?"

"I'd be more than happy to! What are you looking for?"

Susan pulled out a much abused sheet of paper from a pocket of her jacket, "Well, I need information on tieflings, particularly House Malphus ones. Strengths, weaknesses, history. Things like that. Also, Harry Potter as it might have something to do with 'magical tyranny'."
The Daunt scion frowned on that last one, still bothered by the idea Shihab might have bad feelings about her family's business.

Parum stood up from her desk, and began to lead the young girl to a row of books. She wasn't sure if she had a book just on tieflings, however. No matter!
"Let's see...for a book on tieflings, this row should contain something. Magical beings...demonic creatures...here we are, 'Deals with the Devils.' This should contain information on tieflings, and those people who have made pacts with demons. May I ask why you're looking for this book? You don't seem like someone who wants to do dealings with devils."

"I want to know how to stop one from hurting people if I have to," she answered happily in Parum's wake, "It's what my family does, and there's one who's a real jerk in one of my classes, Ma'am. I apreciate your help and your time."

Parum nodded in understanding, although her wings twitched a bit at the idea of an entire family prepared for anti-demon situations.
"Just don't get yourself in trouble, now. Not all demons are bad. Now, did you say you wanted another book?"

Always be nice to archivists. You never know when you'll need to look something up. That was basic, too.
"I know, Ma'am," Susan answered seriously, hugging the first book to her chest, "My Father says to always subdue and restrain for the proper authorities unless my life or another's is at risk and only to act if the target acts first against myself or an innocent."
She nodded, "'Harry Potter', please. Whatever that is."

"Well, your father is teaching you well, then. Follow me this way~"
Parum showed Susan to the Fiction section, and pulled the first Harry Potter book off the shelf. She wasn't sure it would be terribly useful in actual battle, but it was at least entertaining.
"Here you are, is there anything else you'd like?"

Susan registered mild surprise at the item in question being a fiction book series but added it to her collection, "No, thank you. This is very lovely and will take up more freetime than I actually have. What do I do to borrow these and how long can I keep them?"
She smiled. Nice people being nice made her do that often.
