Shihab left the class, his thoughts wandering from magic, to fire, to talking to fire, to thinking about fire and thinking about thinking about fire, and then he remembered--
The bonfire! It was going to be soon-- he glanced down at the list of dates he'd copied down, and frowned, thinking. The tricky part, he thought, was going to be getting the word out that he'd decided on the beach, without alerting any teachers. He couldn't even imagine the disaster that might happen if teachers got involved.
That, and he couldn't decide whether to try and provide alcohol or not. Getting ahold of it wasn't a problem, and he knew that it was a given, from what he'd seen of Western culture, that parties by teenagers included alcohol. He'd never had much of a use for the stuff, but... was he supposed to? Pondering this, he stopped paying attention to where he was going and very nearly walked into the boy in front of him.
"Gah! Sorry about that!"

"About what?" Less asked, pausing in his step. He hadn't actually noticed that the other boy had nearly run into him, and briefly wondered whether he was even the person the other boy was trying to talk to. "You look as if you are weary in thoughts."

((OOC: Heh. This was originally to Nikolai, but Chatvert never responded. Ah, well! Also, depending on how the other thing plays out, it might not be -directly- after Magic/Mages, maybe some other class in the area.))
"I almost ran into you. No worries, though!" He grinned, and looked around quickly for teachers before saying quietly, "Hey, did you see that note about the bonfire?"

((Sorry!)) Less didn't really get why the other boy was lowering his voice, but he played along anyway. "I wrote on it that the fire should be somewhere with no flammables around, so yes. If you give me some time, I can set some rabbit to smoke so we have food during the fire. Maybe some fish, if I can find a way to catch it."

((No worries! I'm just glad someone responded, rather than leaving this a ghost in the internets forever.))
"Ah, that was you!" Shihab grinned and clapped him on the shoulder. "You were right, the forest is a bad idea-- what do you think about the beach? The only thing we'd have to worry about is making sure we find a sheltered spot, for the wind, and to make sure it's camoflauged." He paused a moment, frowning. "You don't mind? That would be excellent! I'm sure I can nab some food for the vegetarians in the meantime-- but what do you think about drinks?"
A frown crossed his face as he thought. "I don't much care for drinks, but I'm pretty sure most students wouldn't consider it worth going without something intoxicating served." He glanced over at Less. "What about you-- do you know what the students around here are like, in that department?" For the most part, Shihab was a fairly mature individual, having been a teenager for at least a decade now, but numerous movies about Western society had given him a skewed perspective of how teenagers in this side of the world behaved.

"What are we supposed to be like, Shihab? You two are being obviously conspiratorial and couldn't quite hear you," commented Susan Daunt brightly, looking between the two boys with alert friendliness as she inserted herself into the conversation with all the unselfconsiousness of a younger sibling.
(Sorry. I smelled a plothook. Will delete if you object.)

"Actually, I made a firepit on the beach last semester. It's a little small, only four feet across, but that should do. There is a den behind it that people can sit in or play games. As for drinks, I can start gathering water stocks so the students do not have to bring their own." He actually meant that middle sentence in a perfectly innocent way, but it could probably be misconstrued. Turning to the newcomer, Less explained, "We are planning a thing. A bonfire with food. Would you like to come with us?"

"That sounds like fun. When and where and who else is invited?" asked the Daunt scion matter of factly, "Glad to help however I can."
Not to mention the fact such a gathering would be the perfect place to humble Verrin if he kept up his current bad attitude. That would make it totally worth it beyond the sheer fun of the thing.

"Excellent!" Shihab grinned at the girl who'd just walked up. "I put the poster up in the boys' Common Room, so I was hoping to find someone who could spread the word to the fairer half of our fine school."
He thought a moment, then added, "And from what everyone's said, I gather the best time is probably Saturday night. Sound good?"

Less nodded. "Yes, that does sound good. Can you hunt? It would be better to take larger animals than rabbits, but I cannot hunt those alone." He didn't have much time before Saturday, so company would be good even if they just went after small prey. It would make the hunt go quicker. "We would have to avoid magical creatures, though, since we wouldn't know how dangerous they are until we get injured."

"That works, Shihab. Give me a location and I'll put up a poster on the girl's bulletin board," Susan chuckled, slightly flattered by the 'fairer half' comment. Chivalry was an extinct concept in the Daunt husehold where everyone was expected to carry their weight and doing your duty effectively was secondary to dignity if not politeness.
She cocked her head at Less, "If we're going to need a lot of meat, why don't we hit a butcher's in town? That way we can avoid any... problems with wild game, dangerus, protected, or whatever."

Laughing, he held a hand up to fist-bump. "Even better, Susan! I'm down with that-- we're meeting at the beach, in Less's lovely den he's built." He grinned at Less. "Excellent foresight, mate. You sure you don't mind a bunch of rowdy, crazy, possibly smashed folks around? I'll help clean up afterwards, for sure."
To the comments on supplies, he cocked an eyebrow. "I was planning on a run through town-- don't want to tip the teachers off by nabbing supplies from the kitchens, though I'm afraid our dear Headmistress has already caught wind. I could definitely use the help ferrying loads to the beach, though."

"As long as my den is not destroyed, roughhousing is fine," Less said cheerfully. "I do not understand why I do not see humans roughhousing more, actually. It would do you good to have a good play fight every so often. Can you find some burn salve for in case someone gets scorched? I will go to the town and grab some meat to smoke. Do you think twenty pounds will do?"

Shihab threw back his head and laughed, reaching over to clap Less on the back. "You think big! But what would you do if not enough people show up to eat it? It'd be a terrible waste, no?"

"Someone will eat it," Susan answered after returning the fist bump with a grin, "You haven't lived until you've had left over steak sandwiches."

"It's not that much, really. Myself and two siblings could easily finish that, but I've noticed humans can't hold much in their stomachs. Leftovers will be smoked and eaten later." Less was actually a little confused as to why someone was asking him this. Didn't everyone preserve their meats?
