Ada walked into the library an afternoon a few weeks into the semester, backpack bulging with books, notepads, and binders. This little project had been put on hold last semester, but now that that had been dealt with, it was time to get back to work. The old-fashioned way, this time, so hopefully nobody could blame her for anything.
Yeah. She'd see if that actually worked out. In the meanwhile, she headed for the back corner with the tables and the windows and the half-shelf of useful magical reference books.

Parum noted the girl carring what seemed like an awful lot of books heading for the back of the library, and quick moved herself over to the table.
"Hello, is there anything I can help you with? You seem to be working on something important."

"Um..." Ada said, having completely failed to notice that there was a librarian. "Is the de Gaulle still where it was last semester? And the translation of the Codex Ängelholm?" Both were big, heavy books, and thus ones that Ada had decided were definitely accessible enough on the library's shelves.

"I believe those books are in the same spots; would you like me to find them for you?"
Parum looked at everything the girl had brought in. Her curiosity as to what this student was up to was piqued.

"Actually, I was going to go to them. They're in a quiet corner with a pretty view. And a table." Ada paused long enough to readjust her backpack. "Magic research... There's always one or two or five more books to consult..."

Parum nodded, looking at the backpack for a moment.
"What can I help you find? You said magical research?"

"Well," Ada said, "a conclusion would be nice... Do you happen to know anything about Hypatian Geomancy? It's supposed to be logical and yet has several oddities, which seem related. I built a supercomputer to look into it last semester, which ended spectacularly poorly. So, it's back to pencil and paper for me, unless someone's already found it."
((OOC - Hypatian Geomancy is really a series of work-arounds to get past the fact that it's missing a fundamental operator (♀ - the ankh). The meta-meta-operators that Ada is working with are, in fact, the fundamental building-blocks of Geomancy, and the so-called fundamentals of Hypatian Geomancy are meta-meta-operators created to get around the missing ♀. Very, very few people know this.))

For the first time in a long while, Parum was drawing a complete blank on this...Hypatian Geomancy. She'd never even heard of such an odd thing.
"I...um...I'm afraid to say I don't know what that is. But if you're looking for books to study magic in, I can show you to the section and help you find what exactly you're searching for."

Shihab slipped past them, with a grin and a friendly wink in the general direction of both Parum and Ada, and headed down the row for magical theory, where he'd been interrupted last night. With a longsuffering sigh, he carefully scooped up the books he'd dropped, and continued down the aisle to the study table he'd found earlier. He had his previously-mentioned notebook of scribbles, as well as the newer notebook from Magic For Mages class, and the ancient copy of One Thousand And One [Arabian] Nights.

Shihab made an irritated noise under his breath and shut the book he'd been reading impatiently, drumming his fingers on the table.
"This is ridiculous," he said aloud, to no one in particular. "I get it, magic is a tentative, shifty, sketchy thing, and few clear-cut rules are understood. But would it really kill them to say something concrete? Even once! Through this entire book! I promise that it will be okay if you go through two paragraphs without saying, 'Of course, we can't confirm this and here have some examples that purportedly, reportedly, and according to dubious sources, utterly contradict everything we just said. But listen to it anyway.' I mean, if you're not going to say anything, why write the book?"
Rant finished, he glared in silence at the offending book, as though daring it to respond.

Parum had noticed the outburst, and was a bit confused.
"Are you angry at the book? Very few can speak, you know."

Leaning back in his chair, Shihab gave a small, exasperated sigh. "Eh, not so much the book itself as the authors-- but they're not here, and quite possibly-- probably, even-- dead, so I can't take out my righteous indignation on them."
Making a face at the book, he jotted a few notes in his own notebook, and then stopped to check the author's name and frowned. It looked... familiar, somehow.

"Well, is there anything you're looking for in particular? I'd be more than glad to help you look."
