Verin was walking up to the professor's office, trying to figure out what to do. Humans usually preferred it if you were polite to them when you wanted something. Well, step one was something like announcing your presence or something. You did that by hitting the door, from what he'd seen.
Having reached the door, Verin raised his fist and slammed it once.

The door, having a sense for the dramatic, boomed deeply. A puff of magic opened it and blew it open, revealing Professor Freeman, sitting and reading from a leather-bound book.
"Mister Malphus," he said, inserting a bookmark and closing the volume. "What brings you by?"

Well, might as well get straight to the point. "Well, sir, I simply want to leave this place and go home. For whatever reason, this is proving more difficult than it should be. No doubt some spell cast to bind me to this plane... As you can probably guess, there is much to do in a given day for the last remaining member of a house's ruling family, and I have been absent for so very long. So... sever my connection to this place and send me to the netherworld, is what I'm asking. Of course, I wouldn't expect you to go unrewarded. I can offer you the usual demonic favours. Artifacts, ritual reagents... the sort of stuff it would be difficult to find here."

"If you are the last member of the ruling family... Given the current unrest down Below, I doubt you'd last long enough to provide any of the 'favors' you promise. There's also the question of what Headmistress Cutty would do to me if she found out that I'd Banished a student. Finally... Much as you seem to hate it, you are half-human, which means you are heir to a legacy powerful enough to change the world."

What was that supposed to mean? Verin tried, and failed, to hide his annoyance. Negotiations never worked. It was a wonder he even bothered trying.
"Tch, fine." Verin said. "I was just asking. It's but a... momentary setback. One way or another, the Malphus name will be restored."
Verin left the office, contemplating the idea of opening up a permanent portal and letting the consequences be damned. It would only take a few years to plan and acquire all the necessary materials, and at least that was a definite timescale...
