Shihab had been practicing, and more or less had honed his fire-control skills to the point where he'd be pretty confident in the face of a bonfire. Shape-changing to get himself the right strength wouldn't be a problem, as his powers in that direction continued to be fairly effortless; thus, he'd decided to concentrate on other issues, with the spare time he had in between classes*. After daylight proved to have significant distractions, he'd picked a cool, calm night, and slipped down to the empty classroom in his usual disguise-- dark gray clothes, and 60% transluscence.
It took him a while to figure out how to get the glass open and the screen off without breaking anything. As he lifted the final frame, a slightly evil grin playing about his face, he pulled his backpack off and began riffling through the contents.
TL;DR...
Anyone who happened to be curiously wandering the second-floor halls and peeked into the room would see a phantom-like student-shape, pulling lit frames out of a backpack. If they looked closer, they'd note that the frames were actually magically lit strings on the more significant lines of various organically-shaped paper airplanes. But he'd probably notice them if they got that close.
*Making this before the Supplies thread, of course.

Laquinta was taking a late-night stroll to see the stars, and happened to pass by the classroom. She halted when she saw something glowing inside, and peeked in. Her snakes wriggled around silently, and she petted them to be still fora moment. They were distracting her from this weird light thingy. She looked as several glowy things moved in the dark classroom.
Curious for what was going on, the tongues of the snakes on her head flicked in and out, tasting the air. It was slightly charred-tasting. Where had she found this before? Wasn't one of the students like that? Multiple of them, even. She couldn't tell in the dark who it was, but this was interesting. She looked in on what was going to happen.

Taking a deep breath, Shihab drew back, angling his throw as best he could, and with one smooth movement, sent the first airplane gliding out the door, and immediately leaned out over the sill to watch, as it spiraled towards the ground. He counted under his breath, taking note of the way it responded to the slightly east-winding breeze. When it hit the ground, finally, he made a 'hmmm' noise under his breath and turned back to the backpack for the second plane. Seeing a movement up towards the door, he froze, staring straight at the silhouette there.

She peeked in a bit further, trying to see - whas that an airplane? A glowing paper airplaine? Sweet. As the figure turned around, she froze, though. However, she couldn't stop from leaning against the door, which creaked horribly loudly in the sil darkness. The snakes on her head wriggled nervously, a corona of slithering movement, expanding and contracting.

Shihab raised an eyebrow.
"You're a student, I assume? If you're not going to blow the whistle on me, come on in-- I could use another perspective."
He concentrated for a moment, making his face opaque, and grinned at her.

Laquinta blinked at the sudden face - she knew this one, didn't she?
"Shibab, right?" She stepped into the room, the eyes of the snakes turning towards him turned luminous in the faint light of the glowing airplanes. "Ti kanis? What are you making?"

Quickly hiding again, he waved her into the room with a somewhat-visible arm. "Shihab, yeah. What's your name again?"
He held up one of the paper airplanes, frowning at it until it brightened a bit, sparkling blue in the dark. "Paper airplanes! I've been studying flight, lately, and looking for how certain shapes hold up. The bottoms are weighted, see?" He turned it, showing the longish rock tied to the bottom. "It's not much, but I wanted to see how the shapes react to the weight-- the flight pattern of wings alone won't help."
For a moment, he considered explaining that he needed to know how to shape-shift wings that would hold his weight, but decided that the girl didn't need to know he could do that-- if he even could. He'd barely gotten used to growing his limbs, thus far. Growing functional limbs of uses he didn't quite understand would be interesting indeed-- he'd have to be careful to test them on something less critical than an abyss.

"Me lene Laquinta. That's... interesting. I learned airplanes fly better if you make the nose a bit heavier, otherwise it just flips up. Is not a rock a bit too much? Unless you want something heavy to fly. Then you probably want a bigger plane."

Shihab frowned, looking down at the planes.
"Well, these are a small-scale experiment for something I'm planning on trying later. I suppose if I increase the density and weight on the wings for the full test, I could..." he trailed off, staring at the airplane intently. After a moment, he looked back up. "Nah, that wouldn't work, unfortunately. If I make the wings too heavy, I'll need a lot more space, or some kind of force to compensate, and that's more Energy than I'd want to expend on the average..." he trailed off again, and with a frown, pulled out a small notebook from his backpack. It was covered in a strange script - Arabic, quickly and sloppily written, with various sketches here and there.
After a moment's flipping and scrabbling, he paused and grinned up at her. "I'm not entirely certain, but in the meantime, the model's made, so you want to send it out the window there? Doesn't matter where you're aiming."

"Sounds... fun?" She made a rather bored face, but launching glowy planes after midnight gave her a tingly feeling of doing something out of line but yet not out of line... though, if there was someone out there to launch it at, it would be even more fun.
She picked up the glowy plane, and positioned herself in front of the open window. With a flick of the wrist it went sailing outside, into the darkness.

Shihab abandoned his post and leapt up, leaning half out the window to watch the plane, staring intently, as though he could somehow record the moment and play it back later. "Hmmm..." he murmured, watching it glide to the ground. "That one seems to have gone a bit farther, but it wobbled a bit - not a problem if the wings are mobile though, eh?" Indeed, the little model was lying maybe ten feet or so from the edge of the forest, sparkling blue like a fallen star - in a scattered trail back towards the window lay a handful more, each colored differently, all still glowing in the dewy grass." Can't believe someone would see this and think 'demonic infestation,' really," he muttered.
Catching himself, he stopped and grinned up at Laquinta. "Excellent!" he told her cheerfully. "You aim them far better than I do. Want to try another? I've got two models left to test."

She gave a sideways glance to the semi-visible boy. Her snakes ould detect him perfectly well, he was warm and he did leave some scent traces, but it was still odd. Another plane? Well, they were fun to throw around, and the little bits of light down on the lawn looked kinda cute.
"Daimón infes-ta... shen? What is that word?" She smiled, a smile saying 'tell me more, this sounds like something I could have fun with'. She idly held out a hand to receive a plane.

He grinned and handed her another one, a bluish violet color glinting along the seams.
"Bah, demon infestation. It means... like an infestation of rats, or some pest. But involving evil spirits, instead. Apparently someone found out about these lights and decided they were symptoms of a... wha'd she call it? Wights, or somesuch foolery? I don't know. Anyway, she wants the magic professor's permission to investigate as a Daunt... something, under the Protective Something act of Some Year." He rolled his eyes. "There's probably an explanatory pamphlet, if you have The Right Connections and a few hours and probably a few degrees in international law."
He coughed. "We... uh, don't get along. I'm partly hoping she does get involved, just so I can have some fun with it." Shihab made a wry face and glanced down at the grounds. "I really shouldn't be all this into it, though. Freeman's right, the naivety of youth is far from the worst of evils..." he trailed off, still staring absently out into the night.

"Sounds difficult. And I do not understand how one sees these as Daimones. They're toys." She lobbed the plane out of the window, watching it soar down in a graceful arc, dipping a little at the end of the trajectory.
"Ay, could you write things on these? Write letters from the Daimones to that Daunt person. See how she reacts." Laquinta grinned back at Shibab, liking this guy already.

He made a face. "Yeah, difficult is the word. We'd probably have busted a crater in the town, arguing a few weeks back, if Professor Freeman hadn't stepped in. It's ridiculous, her world view is so... privileged, and she's so..."
He paused, realizing he sounded like a broken record. "You know what would work for that? Randomly selected philosophies." Shihab grinned at her. "That's a great idea! I'll probably do it with something other than these, though - they're rather important to the experiment, and... well, I like them."
