While Jim had the entire student roster at his disposal, the optional aspect of Saint Dympnha's classes made tailoring classes difficult since he didn't know what everyone wanted out of their experience. On the bright side (and there always was) it meant that the only students that were coming would be those that were interested in his classes.
Professor Jim Modest takes a deep breath of the morning air. "Smell that, Hyperball?"
<I'll let you know when my order for olfactory senses comes in. I'm supposed to get a call next week>
Jim laughs, a deep, reverberating heartwarming laugh. "Oh, you're such a kidder Hyperball. It's the smell of potential."
There were several mats set out on the brushed wood floor of the gymnasium. All that was left was to wait for the students to start arriving.

Mellianne stepped in to the gym wearing workout pants and a blue T-shirt, plus a pair of running shoes. Her hair was in a ponytail. She looked around the gym, then noticed Professor Modest. "Hello sir!"

"Oh, good, prepared for a workout!" he replied with a winning smile. "Hopefully the rest of the students will be as forward thinking as you, miss...?"

Mellianne smiled back. "I'm Mellianne Joss, sir. And I'm used to working out. Usually just in the water instead of on land."

"Good to meet you, Mellianne. I've a passion for the occasional dip myself. Water sports are actually the closest you can get to the sport of Hyperball in this world."
After a few minutes of waiting he comments, "You can't be the only one coming to class, can you?"

Mellianne blinked. "Pleasure to meet you as well. But, what is Hyperball?" She had never heard of Hyperball before, and she ignored the bit about 'this world' as it would likely give her a headache otherwise.
She looked around the gym. "I hope not, sports are more fun when there are more people."

Ada arrived comfortably early for class - a whole three minutes ahead of the scheduled start time. She was wearing a t-shirt, old running shoes, and her summer hiking pants - not quite a proper workout outfit, but light and easy to move in nonetheless.
"Good morning Mellianne, Professor," she said.

Beia wandered in a few seconds after Ada, yawning as she stretched her arms over her head. Her normal attire was fit for combat, she didn't even think to change it. "Hello Professor, umm other students." She had forgotten their names.

"Three is quite a bit better than one, yes!" His stance had an extra spring in it now, although it was hard to gauge that since he always had a significant spring to him.
< 'Better' is subjective. > came a sardonic synthesized voice that's syllables came in time with a blue glow from the ball comfortably wedged between Professor Modest's bulging bicep and his chest.
"Oh, yes - Mellianne, this is Hyperball," he said motioning to the ball - it was an answer, even if it wasn't for the question she asked. "But we don't have time to discuss that now. While we wait for more students, why don't we get started on stretches? Limbering up before any kind of rigorous exercise is key to preventing you from hurting yourself!"
He then proceeded to show a selection of limb and abdominal stretches in a clear, concise, and thoroughly perfect manner, so much so that it was not possible to do them and not feel an eternal shame at not having performed quite up to the standard he set.

Beia copied the professor, though she put little effort into it. She failed to see any reason to out do anyone in stretching. Though she was enthusiastic to do some physical training, this wasn't the fun part. She did note that Modest would most likely be a tough opponent to beat when they fought.

Aidan arrived for class dressed in shorts, tank top and a track jacket, although he removed the jacket when he got inside from the cold.
He greeted Ada and Melianne and introduced himself to Professor Modest, then began to go through the stretches. As a swimmer, he was familiar with most (if not all) of the stretches already, and didn't need to be told the importance of proper warming up - not after one time when he'd jumped into the pool and gotten a cramp halfway down the lane!

Mannie ran into the gym, a bit frazzled and missing his eyebrows. "Sorry I'm late!" he called out. "There was a bit of an accident in my dorm that I had to clean up." He took his place among the students and promptly gave a squeal and a wide grin when he saw Hyperball. The robot was there! Oh, the fun he could have!

Waving at Beia and Aidan, Mellianne blinked at the robotic ball. Hmm, that was new. She had never seen anything like that before. If it was similar to water sports though, she had to find out what the actual sport was. She started up on the stretches.

Beau ran into class. "Hey yall!" He was still barefoot and wearing his wife beater, but now he was wearing gym shorts. "What we do? Give dis Beau a workout mmhmm?"

"Ah, excellent! This is starting to look more like a class!" Professor Modest stands tall, surveying his students as if they were mountains that would worked, melded by his expert and completely peerless hands.
"I am Professor Jim Modest, and welcome to my Physical Education class. While the focus of the class is on physical fitness, we'll also accomplishing this with a series of competitive sports! You're marks will be based on participation and improvement, and not winning, but will be special prizes for those that manage to best their peers. If everyone will follow me..."
He leads them across the gym and out through the back door where a set of obstacles have been set out. Four rows of hurdles, a long-jump pit, a throwing range, some pilars, a set of tires, many recognizable from the obstacle course that Tzu Mei had used at the start of the semester.
"You'll be paired off and each take one of the obstacles in a revolving pattern. Mellianne and Mannie are on Hurdles, Ada and Aiden are on long jump, and Beau and Beia are on javalins and shotput to start."
He turns back to them and makes a resounding clap. Get to it. Hyperball will be keeping track -" the ball materializes in the professor's hand after pushing a button on his wrist, "- and I'll be making rounds to help you improve your techniques. Continue taking turns at your assigned task until the call is made to switch!"

Mellianne finished her streaching and nodded. "Yes sir!" She walked over to the hurdles and turned to wait for Mannie so they could decide who would attepmt them first.

Beau walked over and picked up the shot put with one hand and the javelin with the other. Having never used either item before, he gave a somewhat quizzical look as he turned to the teacher. "'Ey, 'ow Beau do dese? Like dis?" He flicked his wrists and sent the javelin and shot put flying. Each slammed into the wall of the gymnasium, javelin almost going all the way through before stopping...unfortunately the shot put DID blast through the wall and kept going. Beau's jaw dropped and he spun around. "Beau not mean dat! Beau promise! Beau try ta not do it 'ard!"

Mannie did not wait for Mellianne to start. There were only so many ways to jump hurdles, so there was no way he could do anything wrong, right? This somewhat misguided way of looking at things was accompanied by a quick dash at the hurdles in question. Unfortunately, his first jump ended in him tripping over the hurdle in question and banging his knee rather badly.

Perhaps this might take a bit more instruction than he'd provided thus far.
"Alright, new plan! Gather here!" He pointed to one spot in roughly the center of the obstacle course while he gathered up the shotput and destroyed javalin from the detritus. The gym wall would need to be repaired, as would several wooden boards of what had been a spotless gym floor. Such negative thoughts were alien to Jim, and did not even spare a shrug as he returned to the group.
Tossing the shotput in his hand as if it were weightless, he circled around the group and led them to one end of a long ditch full of sand.
"We'll try this a bit more ordered - the first thing we'll be working on is the Long Jump." He sets the shotput down, takes three steps towards the pit, jumping high into the air, performing a mid-air summersault, and landing on the opposite side of the twenty foot pit.
After to the students on the other side of the pit, he announced "Take turns vaulting into the pit, and see how far you can get."

Destiny had already been getting her exercise: Namely, running to class. She had long ago realized that it wasn't very smart to wear the pretty but impractical shoes she favored; running was best done in a pair of tennis shoes (though she still refused to wear any that weren't pink). When Destiny barreled headlong into class, her pale blond hair flying, she was already half out of breath.

Beau, eager to make a good impression after demolishing a good bit of wall, stepped up first. "Beau ca' do dis!" With that, he walked up to the pit, flexed his knees, and did exactly what the teacher did, complete with flip, and landed safely on the far side. He turned around beaming. "See? Beau do mos' anyding when it come to workin' out!"

((Sorry for the out of place post before, need to check just before posting I guess.))
Beia raised her hand, "Me!" she yelled as she ran forward without pause. Throwing as much qi into the ground as she could muster, she bolted into the air, her foot out in a flying kick. Her trajectory would make her land about where Beau landed and had hopefully vacated.

But Beau, pleased with his performance, had not moved one bit. In fact, he was now staring at something out the window that had caught his attention. He just started to turn back just as Beia came in for her landing.

Beia saw half way through her flight that Beau had not vacated the landing area, nor was he paying attention. 'Well, this is going to be messy' she thought sourly, though the only noise that escaped her lips was a long scream. "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Her kick turned into a laughable mid-air flailing as she hit Beau.

Beau heard a somewhat shrill yell and turned just in time to get hit full in the chest by the flailing Beia. The next thing he knew, he was flat on his back and his hands...were definitely somewhere they shouldn't be. "Uh...uh...Beau sorree cher!" He yelped as he pulled his hands away and looked up at Beia, worried at what her reaction would be.

Beia closed her eyes on impact, only to open them with Beau's face dominating her vision. She blinked as her mind worked through the events, then suddenly panic crossed her face. "Ahhh, please forgive me! I thought you would move, and you didn't and...why were your hands there?" Her long scarlet hair blocked Beau's sight from anything but her face, which bordered between confused and enraged.

When Destiny saw that Beau wasn't moving and Beia was going to collide with him, she had covered her eyes in fright (though she couldn't resist peeking through her fingers.)
But with Beia safely landed, Desi was confused--why did they seem so angry? Nobody had been hurt, after all.
She watched the two students, a quizzical expression on her face, and decided she couldn't puzzle it out. People were odd sometimes.

Beau looked up at Beia and stammered..."B-B-Beau not mean ta put 'ands dere! Beau jus' not pay 'tention! Beau not mean ta grab you dere belle! Promise!" His eyes were wide as he said this and he began to scoot out from under Beia, trying to get away.

Mannie made an amused noise and glanced over to see if Professor Modest was going to interfere in case of violence. He was tempted to make a wry comment, but didn't in case it would draw attention from the angry girl.
