Melianne turned her head towards Kahlen. "Yeah. I'm excited too. I wonder what the rooms will be like, and who we'll be rooming with. And I can't wait to go to sleep." She stiffled the next yawn.

After tracking down her bags, Ada caught up with the group.
"I do hope the rooms are nice. All the website said was that they were suites, which could mean just about anything."

Mellianne nodded, being careful not to let her bag bump anyone. "Yeah, though I didn't get a chance to look at the website. My parents only gave me a brochere, but it said the same thing. That will be another nice thing about owning my own computer, not having to wait until its my turn to use it."

Michelle left her tray at the table and followed Professor Stewart. "Whatever the suites are like, at least I won't have to try to sleep with jets taking off and landing," she said.

Mellianne winced. "That definitely sounds noisy. Are jets louder than commercial planes? Cause those are loud enough from what I noticed today."

Damien wanted to keep bugging talk to the groundsman some more, but it he immediately darted back to his table so he could go to his dorm with the other students. He knew vaguely that students roomed with a few other students, and he hoped he would be able to room with someone he knew. Well, someone he knew who wasn't Verin.

((You might mean /you/ want to 'keep bugging' the groundsman?))
"I wonder what the dorms are like. Do you think we'll have seperate rooms, or will we all be stuck together? I don't think that's gonna work," Damien said, glancing back in the direction of Verin and Enamon, "I do hope we're getting our own places. And maybe they'll have computers as well."

Once Less was gone:
"Bloody thought...never leave..."
Fredericks patiently waited until most of the students were gone before crossing the room to put his tray on the tray return. He then shuffled towards the front door and the grounds.

Post by Portia Bianca Rosalind Cutty on May 19, 2010 18:06:51 GMT -5
After a few minutes, Portia left the dining room, smiling, and moved towards Mace and Aravind, distributing papers to the students as she cut through the students. "Thank you for volunteering to take the students to their dormitories," she said to the professors. "If you'll give me just a moment with the students before you take them up, please?"
Without waiting for confirmation from either of them, she turned to face the students, still smiling. Her now empty hands were clasped together. "Those papers I passed out indicate your student groups and what classes you may take this first semester. Everyone has been separated into two groups, so that way we can assure that you will have an easier time deciding which classes you will take. Students in Group 'A' will only be able to take classes from the accompanying Group 'A' professors, and students in Group 'B' will only be able to take classes from professors who are also in Group 'B'. This will switch with the next semester," she explained.
"To help everyone become closer friends and to encourage familiarity, I only used your first names on the student group list." She sounded sincere. "And as you might have noticed, the list which shows the professors whose classes you will be able to take also lists their classes next to their names, just in case you hadn't paid attention earlier tonight."
"Additionally, due to how we operate at Saint Dymphna's, and the fact we want to ensure that everyone focuses on their studies where they feel it would be best for their own futures, class attendance is optional, but I'm sure that everyone will want to do their best in the subjects they choose! After all, you can't learn anything if you don't attend class, and we have several special things awaiting the best students at the term's end as potential rewards to everyone. I'm sure everyone in the 'A' group will be interested in taking Professor Shiyal and Professor Stewart's classes, especially Professor Shiyal's when we start taking school trips to the beach or into the woods."
Portia checked her dainty wristwatch. "Goodness, it's quite late! I'll let Professors Stewart and Shiyal continue with leading you all to your dormitories. Have a good night, and please don't be reluctant to visit my office if you have any problems or questions!"

Mellianne took a quick look at the paper in her hand. Hmm...Student Group A. That means I'll probably want to take Introduction to Magical Theory, Supernatural Powers and How to Use Them, Forestry and Survival, Swordsmanship, Biology, and Cooking. That's six classes right there, which seems good for the first semester. If I want to take any of the other A classes later, I can do that next year. Or maybe not, we'll see.
She turned to Ada, Kahlen, and Michelle. "What classes are you going to sign up for?"

"The only ones that really look interesting are fighting and marksmanship," said Michelle, "I might take a look at alchemy too. That just leaves three more classes."

"Sweet!" Malakai crowed to whoever happened to be standing near him. "Marksmanship, Advanced Defensive Fighting, Intro to Hacking--awesome! How many classes are we supposed to be taking? I suppose Voice and Performance and maybe astronomy or chemistry could be useful. I wonder if they will teach to make improvised explosive devices in Chemistry?"
He looked around to see if anyone was listening to him.

Damien raised an eyebrow at Malakai's choices - he assumed he was one of the B students too, but he hadn't cought his name yet. "You're a fighter, aren't you? I'm kind of surprised with the number of combat classes. I thought we'd get more, you know, normal subjects... though they are mixed in."
He frowned for a second, and decided. "I guess I'll take Chemistry, Math, History, English and Computer Sciences. Latin might be cool, but I don't know if I like learning a language with no use... Astronomy sounds really cool as well. I think I'll do that." Realising he'd be seeing Professor Thorne quite a lot, he absentmindedly scritched his hair, making it even more of a mess than usual. Also, talking about starting a band was interesting, but he wouldn't have music 'till second semester... maybe he could ask someone to teach him something in his spare time.

Kahlen tried to suppress a squeal when she saw a voice and performance class. "I am definitely taking Professor Raleigh's voice and performance class," she said to Mellianne. "I'm considering Latin and the English class."

Mellianne thought for a moment. "Well, history would be useful so you don't make the same mistakes as people did in the past. And math might be, cause I think it's in a lot of the sciences, but I'm not too sure what else it applies to."
She turned to Kahlen. "I know I'm going to take Introduction to Magical Theory, Supernatural Powers and How to Use Them, Swordsmanship, and Cooking. And I'm thinking about Forestry and Survival and Biology."

"Those sound interesting," Kahlen said. "I'm in group B, so I won't have those until next semester. I'd take Professor Shiyal's class just because he's so mysterious." Kahlen waggled her eyebrows. "Too bad we won't have any classes together... Well, that's what extracurricular activities are for."
Kahlen heard the other students discuss taking multiple classes. What did she have to lose by taking the Latin and English class? Dance time, but she stayed up most of the day, so that probably wouldn't matter.
"I wonder when we get to sign up. Does anyone know when the term begins?"

Mellianne giggled then shrugged. "Mysterious eh? But maybe next year, they'll re-do the groups so we have a chance to have classes with other students. That would be nice."
She then shook her head. "I have no idea. Wish I knew when term began. It would give me a chance to work my schedule out earlier."

"If any of you want tutoring in Latin, I could help you out. My more natural pronunciation is Medieval style, but I I know the classical style, if that is what this professor is using." Malakai tried to make this statement in an offhand manner. He wished they had someone teaching Mandarin.

CIA? Oh crap. Government. If there was anything that could drive him into a corner it was that. But he managed to stay calm. It was an awesome career choice, after all. "Sweet. I don't really have anything planned out yet. I'll just take what seems useful, I'll see what happens after that." He folded the paper in two and stuffed it in his overly full shoulderbag, and started walking after Professor Shiyal. He yawned widely, barely covering up with his free hand. It was time to get to the dorms. Damien hoped the beds were comfy - and that they had hot showers here.

((OOC: Okay, I'll be glad to get this party started... to bed... as soon as I know where we're supposed to go. Staircase and then Common Rooms, or just Common Rooms? Will modify post if necessary.))
Aravind glanced over the sheet, made a quiet "hmph" sort of noise, and folded it into his front pocket. Looking back to make sure the students were following, he nodded to Professor Stewart and set off towards the staircase.
((Thread continued in Boys' Common Room! ...for boys. For girls, it'll be in the Girls' Common Room, of course.))

Desi crumpled the sheet into her jeans pocket. No class attendance required? Now that was a surprise, and a pleasant one, though she was sure there had to be some kind of catch to it.
She figured she'd just sign up to whatever everybody else was signing up for, show up a couple of times, and try to figure things out. She was pretty sure she wasn't going to do well at any of this stuff... and expecting her to learn about magic, of all things, was just ridiculous. Cooking, maybe. That was just a matter of throwing a lot of things into a pot or a pan and boiling them for a while, right? Maybe she'd be OK at that.
Noticing that people were starting to leave, she grabbed her suitcase and started for the stairs.

((ooc yes I know I'm a little late in this whole thing, but the conversation will be continued in the girls common room after this post. Will modify if need be.))
Mace heard the Headmistress and came to a screeching halt. Oh, goody. Nothing like learning that you're going to be heaped in with the "Magic" Professors, where there are much more exciting things to do than to turn up to their Swordsmanship classes.
She returned Aravind's nod with a brief smile of her own, and then started up the staircase. Those who didn't know should be able to follow her long flame-red hair; it certainly stood out in any crowd.
