"Waboba?" Ada asked. "What's that?"

Mellianne grinned. "Waboba is played with a small ballwith the same. 'The idea of the game is to pass between team members, minimum two players in each team, without losing the ball to the other team. When all team members have caught the ball at least once, without interruption and with at least one bounce on water in each pass, the team gets one point (one round). The opposing team shall try to interrupt passes and start passing within their team. First team to three rounds wins the match. Participants have to pass the ball within 5 seconds after receiving it. It is allowed to tackle opponents, but not the player that has the ball, and participants are further not allowed to hold an opponent.'" ((Info from the wikipedia page, since its word for word, I thought I would mention it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waboba ))

"So..." Ada tried to summarize, "It's like a cross between water volleyball and ultimate frisbee? Sounds slightly insane..."

Mellianne thought for a moment. "Yeah, it is slightly insane. But it's not as rough as water polo, but more action than swimming."
((As I have played neither water polo or Waboba, I'm guessing on the intensity, please excuse me if I'm wrong))

Ada grinned, a little bit ferally.
"If you put a group together to play, count me in. It sounds like a bucketload of fun."

Mellianne laughed at the grin. "Sure. Techniqely, we only need two more people, but that's not so fun. I'll tell you once I get a chance to check out the pool, find a few more people, and order a Waboba ball."
((not sure how it will work out if we RP it though))

"I'm in," said Michelle, "and judging by what I've seen of the school so far, the pool should be fine."

Mellianne nodded. "Yeah, the pool should be fine, I just wanted an excuse to check it out. Not that I needed one with being a swimmer. Though it would be nice to see how much shallow and deep water we have to work with."

Mellianne grinned. "I'm glad I promised my parents a phone call tommorrow evening. And I don't have my own computer yet. I think I'm going to check to see how easy it's gonna be to get ahold of one here. It would be useful, and nice. Wouldn't have to worry about the time zones or hope my parents aren't busy. Also would make it easier to talk to my siblings, as none of them are at home currently."

Mace shrugged. It didn't seem to matter what went on, as long as it went on. Either way, killing didn't appeal to her, but she could see the humour behind Aravind's words.
"I would. But something tells me that our esteemed Headmistress wouldn't allow that sort of behaviour," Mace joked. "Just as we can't have any of the students so much as raising a fist at each other."
She glanced around. It looked like people were getting ready to leave the Dining Hall. Now that her stomach was laden down with food, sleep felt like a wonderful idea. However, her conversation with Aravind was proving interesting -- she'd stay up just a little while to finish their talk.

Aravind half-shrugged, finishing the last of his salad. He hadn't met the Headmistress, since he'd sent his resume in by mail, and wasn't sure how strict she'd be on student discipline-- a fairly relevant question.
"You never know," he pointed out. "She might be one of those 'Spare the Uber-Magick-Super-Sword, spoil the Uber-Magick-Psycho-Child' types. Anyway," he continued, "It looks like everyone's spoken who's going to, by now. I think one of us is supposed to take them up to the dorms."

Aidan grinned. "Sounds like mad fun, I'm in for sure," he said. "How about you, Scott?"
"Yeah, ok, as long as I don't have to get up early to play it," Scott said, stifling a yawn. "I'm about ready for bed."
"Me too," said Aidan. "I'm planning to get up early tomorrow and check out the pool."

Mellianne yawned yet again. "I don't think I'll be able to do the wake up early thing tommorrow. I'm too tired. I had to do the wake up extremely early thing today in order to get to my plane in St. Louis in time. Then I had a layover. I'm officially exausted. Which sucks cause I really wanna see that pool."

Mace's head snapped up. Taking students to the dormitories? Was he really serious?
"You're joking." Mace looked at her feet. "You mean I actually have to get up?"
She looked out across the mingling first years and swallowed.
"I had an interview..." Mace babbled on, hoping to delay the inevitable. "She was ... cheerful. Too cheerful. Could be psychopathic."
Mace's wings fluttered. One of the first signs of agitation, as though she were preparing for take-off. Though she would not take flight in the middle of the Dining Hall, it wasn't as if she couldn't. That's all it was, nerves, nerves, nerves. Shoot. She'd better get a handle on those before tomorrow.

Aravind arched a single eyebrow, wondering what it was about walking a bunch of kids up a few floors had agitated the other professor. Surely she couldn't actually be upset at having to get up?
"You could be right," he replied dryly. "Everyone knows nothing says 'dangerous psychopath' like bubbling cheer." He drummed one finger absently on his plate. "Personally, I'd look forward to working with a complete lunatic or two. Might make things a little more interesting."
He waited for someone else to stand up, someone else to say something, and then realized no one else seemed inclined to be the first to break the calm. Aravind sighed and stood up, clearing his throat quietly.

Mace hesitated a little before following suit. That's when she realised what the problem was. It wasn't that she was nervous about standing or anything silly like that. There was a sea of students before her, so large that she wasn't sure if she could keep it together. Classes were something she could look forward to, interestingly enough. The stage fright that went with it? Terribly annoying. She clenched her fist and set her jaw, swallowing the worst of the butterflies.
"Lunatics might be fun. You never know when one is in the room." Mace winked, then turned to face the first years, getting her own back.
"All right! First years! Let's get it together!" Mace called, her voice ringing through the Dining Hall like a bell. "We need your attention, like now!"
Mace looked at Aravind expectantly. He could finish what she started. Ah, the joys of putting someone else in the spot-light.
((OOC: Well, why not? LOL))

Aravind caught the wink, froze for one split second, opened his mouth-- and then turned back to the students with an almost imperceptible headshake-- and a flinch, as he realized his colleague (his colleague, by the World-Tree's non-existant arse!) had just said 'like now!' He glanced at Mace briefly, his eyebrow raised again.
"...Yes." He cleared his throat again. "Unless you want to sleep here, I suggest you follow either Professor Stewart, here," with a gesture at Mace, "Or myself, to your dormitories. I'll be taking the... males, and... females should follow her." There was a brief pause. "And no, you do not want to sleep here. Let's go."
Without further ado, he turned for the main doors, absently wondering if there was a way to refer to male and female students less awkwardly, without alienating the non-humans. In his own class, he didn't give a damn how much offense they took, but it seemed rude to tread all over people's toes in such a public forum.
((OOC: I'm going to assume the first-years all quieted down at least somewhat? I figure it's just kind of... a natural assumption? Apologize, and will revise, if anyone objects.))

Wait what? Where had her esteemed colleague gone off to? Oh, that way. Towards the doors. Mace stared for only a second before winging her way out of the door. Another appropriate metaphor she hoped would gain the students attentions -- out of shock, more than the appropriateness to the situation at hand.
"It gives good shock value," Mace said, shrugging. "Shock value rules."
((OOC: I am leading everyone out, but at the moment I'm not going to be online when everyone else is role-playing leaving the Dining Hall. So rest assured, you'll all get there, we'll just have to bend time a little to do it.))

Getting up, Somariel took her tray to the tray return, then followed Professor Stewart out of the dining hall.
(OOC: I'm assuming that there's some sort of tray return system that takes the trays and dishes back into the kitchen to be washed.)

Scott replied to Damien's question about music. "I play a mix- classical on my violin, but I also play guitar. Hard rock's good- playing shred guitar is heaps of fun. I used to play in an awesome band at my old school. Do you play?" "Nah, I don't play, but I do enjoy listening. But who knows, I might try something. I don't have any hobbiues to devote my time to, anyhow, so I'm open for suggestions." He looked over at the girls who were obviously going to make a swimming club. "As long as it isn't swimming. Water doesn't agree with me at all." He half-laughed it off. If they only knew. The last time he'd gone swimming in a pool half the water had evaporated by the time he got out. The remaining was almost uncomfortably warm - somehow the stuff pulled out so much of his inner heat that he practically boiled it. The conversation went on for a while, and then the professors asked for attention. After the short announcement, Damien rose and looked around the room for Less, who was distracted by a rather mean-looking man. "Less! We're leaving, 're you coming or what?" The werewolf seemed to need a hand with some things, so a warning seemed a good idea. Damien scurried out the hall after Professor Shiyal, picking up his two suitcases along the way.

Scott realised that everyone was getting up to go to their rooms.
"Oh, I guess we should get going to the dorm. Do you know which room you're in? I haven't checked yet, but I assume I'll be with Aidan. They've always put us together at our other schools. Just a sec..."
He walked over to the entry hall and picked up his suitcase, violin and hockey stick, and returned to the group of students milling around Professor Shiyal.
"Do you play sport, then?" Scott asked Damien. "I play rugby and hockey."
((I realise that room assignments have been posted, but I'm assuming students wouldn't find out till they got to the dorms?))

((this would be just outside the dining hall then, on the way to the dorms. Don't feel like making a new thread for that.))
"Nah, nothing really. I like a good run every now and then, but I really don't have anything I spefically like. Makes me feel a bit out of place here, everybody has some sport or instrument they play. I haven't done anything like that before. I actually only started school when I was ten or eleven, before that I got homeschooled by my mom. I haven't been in any sports clubs or stuff like that." Damien was a bit indifferent about it. He'd only been allowed to go to school when he'd learnt to keep up human shape. Before that it was too risky, and he didn't want to repeat the incident where he accidentally set the neighbour's cat on fire. And it wasn't like he needed to exercise, the shape he had was partially formed by magic, and it was very difficult for his kind to get flabby in human form.

Aelita was very tired. The entire reality of her situation was just now beginning to set in. Who was going to tuck her in? What if she had a bad dream? She couldn't climb in bed with her parents here.
She was too tired to fly anymore and slowly walked after the rest of the girls. She couldn't see beyond the wall of people in front of her, as even the smallest of the rest of the students was over a foot taller than her.
Her wings drooped sadly until they were almost dragging on the floor, as she continued to think about her parents.

Mellianne stretched as she stood up, and then gathered her dishes and put them on the tray. Walking over to put the tray up, she tried to stop yet another yawn, but was unsuccessful. Having put the tray up, she made sure she had her bag with her and followed the other girls out of the dining hall.

"I.. I told them about some stuff I did recently. I didn't think it was bad, just efficient. But they didn't share my opinion. I suppose that's why I've been sent here." Rena stood up and picked her backpack off the floor. "Well, it looks like we're ready to move out. You're a good person, Kent, so it's nice that you'll be my friend. Kahlen jumped up as the other students began to return their trays and follow the professors to the dorms. Kahlen dropped her tray off, grabbed her bag, and trotted alongside Mellianne.
"Finally, we're going to the dorms. Everyone's been yawning," Kahlen said. "I'm excited to see where I'll be living for the year."
